There are several things here. . .ok.

One--strings. Are you using a light gauge string, as in smaller than .105 for the E? If so I'd suggest trying a larger set of strings.

Two--set up. Have you adjusted your pickup height? It may be that the pup is just cranked way down into the body and what you perceive as "deep" is an issue of not having the pup adjusted high enough. Also, an improperly adjusted truss rod can 'kill' tone by adding too much tension to the bass. A properly set up bass kinda 'breathes', there's plenty of room for all parts to vibrate freely rather than damp tone.

Three--are you on steel strings or nickels? If you are on steels you might be getting too bright a tone, perhaps warmer nickel strings would give you "deep".

Four--e.q. Are you bumping up your lows but also have the highs cranked? Cut your highs back. That goes for on your amp as well as on your bass. If you have at least a five band eq on your amp try rolling back your lows a tad and bumping your low mids and mids, see how that goes.

Five--Are you playing through tens? Perhaps a fifteen would do ya better. I'd suggest twelves but I have no experience with them.

Six--have you considered upgrades for your OLP such as a pickup replacement or onboard preamp replacement with real Stingray stuff?

Seven--is the OLP active? Is the battery fresh? Had to ask . . .

Hope that gives you some things to work with.

what i was thinking is to play in front of the pickups, thicker gage, get some ghs mellow sounding strings, may be a pedal like the bass xciter or the sansamp driver would help also.

The most obvious way is using eq, as already mentioned.

If you want to get a dubby bass noise, an envelope filter is the way to go. I use a Dod FX25B set to low sensitivity so the envelope doesn't open... You don't get the quack usually associated with an envelope filter, just that deep low bass noise typical of dub reggae.

Another trick is to reinforce the signal with a lower fundamental. You can do this by using a subharmonic synthesiser such as a DBX subharmonic synth (expensive) or by using an octivider such as an EBS Octabass. Some amps such as Ashdowns and SWRs (I think) come with integral subharmonic synths. This effect should be used subtly.
