I really want to try the EB flats on my StingRay 5.

Got a set of another brand on my StingRay 4.

So do any of you EB dealers that post on the board have any 5 string EB flats? If so PM me a price, as I need a set ASAP.

Thanks.

I ordered some from Musicians Friend last week, they were 30% off with free shipping to boot. Not sure if that's still going on.

TRav, I put some on my Bongo a couple of weeks ago. They're kinda bright right now, but the tension and playability are perfect for me. The local music store sells them 2 (retail) for one. Pm me for a price. Tony

Would have a set to give you if my LMS's stocked 'em. Went shopping today and will have a little surprise for tomorrow. Gonna be fun.

I still need to try flats myself. I bought some Chromes a few months ago and when I tried to put them on my Ray the D and G strings kept unraveling when I tried to wind them up. I cut them the same length as I do my nickel rounds(Slinkys) so i'm not really sure what happened? Anyways the D-G strings unraveled to the point that they were unusable. So the company that makes them wouldn't do anything about it and i'm stuck with only the E and A strings which does me alot of good:rolleyes: I've heard from other people that this is a common thing with these strings. I guess I should have tried the EB flats instead:(

You shouldn't cut flats - any brand. I've got Chromes on 6 of my current basses, and have been a Chromes user for almost 15 years, and have never had any unravel on me.

Yeah I guess I found out the hard way.......I usually cut my rounds to leave enough room for about three wraps and figured the flats would be the same:(

No cut flats?

Learned something new...

I had cut the Chromes for my Sterling when I originally installed them, and I've once taken them off for a spell and re-installed them - no unravel issue. Assuming I was lucky.

Without cutting the string down (I too usually look for only three wraps) are you wrapping the entire string?

Yes, I wrap the entire string, and have never had any problems. My flats ain't coming off in a hurry anyway.

I think you are going to like the EB flats. They sound very full, and they feel great!

Hmm..didn't know about the no cut thing either. I have EB flats on both my basses, and I cut them the same length as the factory rounds (4" past the post).

I've been playing the set on my SR for a year or two now with no problems, and haven't had any trouble with the two sets I've put on my Sterling
