I went to visit some friends in London last weekend. On the Friday, when I arrived, I had a little time to kill before meeting my friend from work. I wandered along to The Bass Gallery in London, and there it was on the wall, a 4HH Burgundy Rolls.
I played it through a Mark Bass amp. First impressions, beautiful neck. Felt very comfortable. Is the neck stained or is the finish sprayed on? It felt like stained wood. Soundwise, absolutely brilliant. Small adjustments on the dials resulted in noticeable changes in tone. However, every tone was useable. Yes, I was very impressed.
I also had a go on a single H SR5. Now, I really liked that bass. It seemed to have a deeper, more sonorous low end than my SR4, yet there was still a bright edge to it. I could definitely live with one of those.
However, no 5 string Bongo, no HS Bongo, no twin PUP SR5s. Dang this frustrating country, no choice, no try before you buy.
