Let me start by saying, I love my SR5's and love the quality and craftmanship. I too was one of those who didn't like the looks of the Bongo. I thought they looked strange, and didn't look like MM's. Well I finally tried out a 5 HH and let me tell you the weight was lighter than expected.

I mean if there's one thing that I wish, is that my rays could be a little lighter. I play 3 long sets a night and by the end of the night, my shoulder is a little sore.:(

Now back to the Bongo. I really liked the feel of the neck. It was very easy to play,:) but I wonder why they only come in rosewood? Could that be to prevent neck dive? I really love my maple necks. Anyway, the EQ was very wide and flexible with many tones that I could tune in. There was almost TOO many possibilties! :eek:Also, I thought the knobs were a little plasticy feeling? Not sure if you guys know what I mean. Anyway, I can see a Bongo in my future, but I have to wait a bit as I have a Sterling 5 on the way!;)

What kind of strap do you use? I have a 4 1/2" Levy strap that makes my basses feel lighter. If a strap won't help you, you need to suck it up. :p

Bongo knobs are metal, you're imagining things because they're black.

I use a 4" strap. It has helped alot. I wasn'r really complaining, just making an observation.

So making Bongos with Rosewood necks was merely for esthetic purposes? That's interesting, and I wonder if BP would make that optional. I would love to see/hear a bongo with a maple neck.:D

Business opportunity alert! many Bongo lovers may buy one of each if available with maple board :)

The words "mass per unit volume" come to mind...:D No means no, guys.
