That I would remove the neck of my 99.9% mint Sabre which arrived today via UPS. I doubt that it will help because all I could decipher was DEC 09 stamped in blue ink in the body pocket. No dates on the pots either. The initials JG were penciled in numerous places on the neck and body pocket.

Anyway serial # is CO5232. It's a burst finish, black pick guard with one piece maple neck that feels similar to my 79 jazz minus the binding. The pups do not have exposed magnets, there are three knurled nobs, and one five position switch, a four bolt kneck, and not a mark on it! I love it!

Now me being a MM rookie if someone could just tell me what all the knobs and switch positions intended purpose are I'd be in heaven....... Thanks Rob :D

Another question I thought of. Why are the grooves in the bridge saddles offset from the holes that the strings pass through? I've seen many pictures of older MM basses that have the strings offset at the bridge. Is this a flaw?

Thanks flywheel, I wonder what the reasonong behind the angle was. I don't guess it matters if it works I'm just curious. .... Rob

Hi ceddy...thanks for the follow up. Unfortunate you have no year but thanks for passing the info.....

Sounds like an 83 to me. The setup you describe is typical of 83.

Controls:

(Oh....forgot....congrats on your Bass...any pics???).

Pots are code dated on the outer edge....eg:

"137-7920"

"304-7920"

137 for standard single pot and 304 for a stacked pot.

"79" is the year....in this example....made in 1979.

"20" is the week of the year....May in this example.

Thanks for all your help. I'll post some pics in a couple of weeks (I'm out of town on vacation for two weeks). I may end up being a MM convert and buy a new model. Though it would have to be a Sterling for me since I have "girly man" hands....

But for me now it's put the Sabre with a headphone amp in a gig bag in my motorcycle trailer and hit the road for a couple weeks....Thanks again... Rob in Ohio.. USA
