Great story, sort of like the ugly duck that turned into a swan, only to be shot and prepared for dinner at an old folks home.... (that's rambling Jack.:D )

I love that color and by all means, play with that baby for a while.... then get a Bongo and a Sterling and a EBMM Zippo, EBMM T-shirts, EBMM banner, repeat...

Welcome aboard and have fun here!

But yeah, Ray and I were asking ourselves how many basses leave with the ex-owner thinking, "Good riddance!" and then someone who knows a little bit gets the bass and it's a mofo.

Good point Jack. I just started trying to do my own set-ups with the new Sterling I just got. I've received a lot of good advice from my buddy JBFLA. I was intimidated at first but I've found out as long as I'm careful and use some patience that it's a trial and error thing and unless you're a knucklehead you won't hurt the bass. I've got it about where I want it. No more $35 set-ups for my local shop!!!;)

That's why i think everybody should learn to do basic setup to his/her basses, it's part of your dutty as a musician, but first watch a pro to learn how to do it.
IMO.;)

I learned to do setups many moons ago on old Fenders, EBMM's are a breeze compared to that.

I think EVERYONE who owns a bass (or any instrument for that matter) needs to learn some basic maintenence, truss rod, bridge saddles etc, you know a little bit about your car, right? When it comes to electrical problems I take it to someone who knows that stuff because I ain't that guy.

Now if you can't figure it out on your own even after all the info available on the net (hey call EBMM customer service) then PLEASE take it to a reputable tech before you decide to off it.

Changing strings, tweaking the truss rod and setting up the bridge yourself saves you some $$. It ain't rocket science.

Imagine my shock at buying my first electric bass and still having to play it to make music.

Electric things are supposed to work. I plugged it in nothing happened.

I thought AM or FM was a tough choice.

Plus I've gotten a good sense of satisfaction by doing it myself:)

My bass has sort of had a paddy when I changed the strings on it... buzz on the 11-13th frets on all strings but completely fine everywhere else.

Am following the advice I've seen on here and fingers crossed will sort if soon :) It is a good thing to know how to do, and I'm glad that I can't kill my bass unless I do something REALLY wrong :D

In regards to tweaking the truss rod, Skynyrd put it best - Simple, Man.

Dr. S, thanks for not buying my bass. I'm gonna be the one to "play the poop out of it," as you said on TB, but it looks like you've got enough nice 5ers to rock out on!:)

Psycho, no more basses for now, but I do like that Slinky on the brain shirt!

I've been playing the fiddle for 22 years, and over that time I've learned to make all kinds of adjustments that most players are afraid to do. For example, I can fit my own pegs & cut my own bridge. It might not be quite as good as a professional does it, but I think think it's pretty close.

Same with my basses. I can't imagine having somebody else set them up for me. I want them to be set up 100% for ME! Like bonzo said, I get a lot of satisfaction knowing I can do it myself.
