The transition to 5 strings, if you are ready for it, is incredibly easy....the first time I picked one up and realized that the low B tuned the same way as the rest of the strings and was a natural extension, I never picked up a 4-string again, and that was a loooooong time ago.
The fact that you are wondering about it means you have a use for the 5'er already....try to find a way to keep that blonde-on-black 4-string....they are gorgeous, and I still have my original 4-string blonde-on-black '78 Precision hanging on the wall as a reminder of where I came from....
Start putting your spare dimes in a jar. There will come a time, sooner than later if you start now, when it will become a reality.

Straight ahead !
Depending how much 'music' is your priority, once you're ready to make the fundamental and most critical '5str decision', the secondary issues such as tech and cosmetic specs will fall into place quickly and easily, and you'll find constructive ways to engineer your budget to fit your needs
EBMM 5s are there and ready when you are ;)

4str VS 5str Bass Case - Court Now In Session

Well I love my stingray so much.. Its from 1989 its as old as me and is in pretty good condition. Black with a maple fretboard It truely is beautiful.. However.. I think I was a 5 string stingray. But Id hate to get rid of this one and there is no way I can afford both. I don't know what to do. This one is perfect but I think I would like some lower notes. Im so torn right now cause part of me hates 5 strings and part of me wants one.

Well let me end this with a question about the 5 strings.
