The transition to 5 strings, if you are ready for it, is incredibly easy....the first time I picked one up and realized that the low B tuned the same way as the rest of the strings and was a natural extension, I never picked up a 4-string again, and that was a loooooong time ago.
The fact that you are wondering about it means you have a use for the 5'er already....try to find a way to keep that blonde-on-black 4-string....they are gorgeous, and I still have my original 4-string blonde-on-black '78 Precision hanging on the wall as a reminder of where I came from....
Start putting your spare dimes in a jar. There will come a time, sooner than later if you start now, when it will become a reality.
