I Think I'm Getting a JP!

You didn't ask me, but I'm answering anyway.

It's narrow like that Axis, but also a thin profile like that jackson you mention... It's very close to an Ibanez Wizard neck...but better of course.

Right, it feels a little bit thicker than a "Wizard", but not much.

Comparing apples to oranges, I prefer the feel of the 6 string to the 7 string version, and the feel of the Silo neck over the JP 6. But that's just me!

In terms of "flatness" I prefer my Kramer over them both (treason! heresey!)


For comfortable chords and riffing, though, the Axis neck gets my vote!


Why do I think this is gonna bring on a whole mess of "neck swapping" threads?

Swap a Silo neck onto a JPMM body and you get the "ergonomic" body contours - ooo man gettin itchy palms

There is a drastic difference in neck feel between the JPs and the Silo (24 fret). Even tho theyre similar in setup, they feel totally different. The Silo neck is definitely beefier, whilst the JP neck is thinner and a lil' more narrow. If you love the Sub neck, then the Silo is where I'd go. Plus the Silo is more versatile in the tones you can achieve. Take this from a guy who loves his 3 JPs and Silo EQUALLY, theyre just different animals. It looks like the Silo is my main beeeyatch now for the new band as well....

OK, I'm convinced, JimiD's Silo that I have aquired has become my guitar of choice. The neck is perfect for me, these were the answers that I was looking for. Anyone want to trade their Silo for my Wayne

Are you saying you want to trade? Cause if you are I will...as much as I love that Wayne, I've determined that I love the Silo more. (dang a 7 string Silo would be sweet) Its wierd...it smooth as silk, effortless is the word, and this is the reason I've inquired about the JP's...but if they are narrow like the Axis then I may not be able to get a grib, sort speak!

I agree, sometimes we get carried away, in fact I almost purchased a Carvin...almost. We search for that next illusive aquisition, hoping that it will inspire us to create or play better. I just felt drawn to a JP...I can't explain it, so I thought that I could use what I have to get one...but since all of this, I have to reconsider...

Thats what I want, a Silo, I want the 24 frets...however I have grown to love the configuration of a special...oh well!

I have bene playing Ibanez Wizard necks for years. The JP6 neck feels markedly diffferent, yet still comfortable to me. I can't explain it better than that, unfortunately.

Your right. Your very right. The thing is now I am trying to record tunes that are cleaner (heavy but more professional, yeah right) with written lyrics and a written solo...so its all about work...
In fact last night I said to myself...that's enough, no more!

Ah but there is a story to be told, which will put into perspective this sudden and overwhelming occurance of GAS. In my younger rockin days, I had some pretty good equipment, that got stolen...I was devasted, and not able to replace it...then years past, marriage came and so did the children. My only fix came via a YEARLY visit to the local music store, where I would sit and play for hours on end. Then finally after 15 or 20 years I decided to go out and purchase some new equipment, and thus the addiction was created...

One good thing about Ernie Ball instruments - its a lot cheaper than going through multiple Strats, Ibanezes, Gibsons etc., the addiction will be satisfied sooner because they are fantastic guitars.

I can truly say buying the Silo got the monkey off my back, I never wanted an Ibanez , Fender or PRS after that, all I have now is a little chimp that keeps telling me how great a Steve Morse model would be.
