I think I'm in Love

Yesterday I went to Guitar Center, and found something that made my heart jump. Yes of course, the Musicman Petrucci Ball Family Reserve Model.

Well, looked at the price, $2xxx. I knew I wouldn't buy it, but I just had to play it.

After finding a Peavey Vypyr, I fiddled around on it a bit, and it was the most comfortable guitar I've ever played. The neck was so perfect for my hand I couldn't believe it.

The articulation, even on a Peavey Vypyr, came through on this guitar. It's warm and mellow. I had a hard time putting it down when I had to leave. My only bite is how the sixth string was snappy and the bridge might have needed a re-adjustment, but with eight year old kids coming in and messing with everything in sight, that's what you'd expect from Guitar Center.


Just thought I would share my opinions on this incredible guitar. If anyone hasn't played it, I'd suggest finding the time to play one when you have the chance. Probably the turning point in my life.

Is the neck on the BFR the same as the original Petrucci? Just curious.

colin has a fairly cheap (cheap by aussie standards) one available would have been mine if i didnt stumble across a mesa mkV.. lol

I have a JP6 BFR (Blackburst Flame) I'm considering letting go of. Less than a year old without a ton of playtime on it. Only been through 1 string change because I put on the new coated EB's and haven't needed to. Just ordered a DD2 JP7 and I've found that I really prefer the unfinished maple neck to the finished one on the BFR. Nothing wrong with the painted neck, I just prefer the feel of an unfinished one.

If they'd only make a JP BFR with Mahogany body, Maple neck, and Ebony or Maple board.

Sorry, I'm not that familiar with Peavey amps, and I thought it was a guitar comparison.

The way the sentence is structured the reader assumes it is the Peavey that is being described as the "direct object".

Yeah that was a couple of years ago, I just wasnt impressed. The BFR sounds a lot better, and thats what I hear from all the JP players, they love the BFR. I think I liked the neck better too, the painted feel is actually smooth and nice!!!!

I too was impressed with the JP6 and BFR JP6 when I first played them. I still don't love the neck profile, but I think I could get used to it. Great sound though and (IMO) the most comfortable EBMM body. Having said that, I haven't played a 25th yet.

And of course man, I would definitely take the JP if price weren't an issue. I would take the original also, which I am considering because the price isn't actually bad. I believe used they can range from 800-1400 USD?

Range is about right, maybe up to 1650 for Mystic Dream on a 7. I've seen some absolute steals of less than 700$, too. But you have to be lucky/seller has to be stupid/crazy desperate.
