I think Nigel Tufnel should team up with Chevy- Buy an Avalanche, get a free Mr. Horsepower. They both go to 11! :D

Hadn't heard of that brand before. Pretty clever marketing ploy on both company's parts. They're even having a contest, which implies you have to have the guitar and the car to do it. But the guitar.... Hmmm.... Doesn't quite do it for me.

They are pretty poor guitars. One of my students has one and it is so cheap. I can't believe Slash would attach his name to this.

I dont know if this is true, but somewhere along the way I heard they have the cheap line, but also have a custom line that builds pretty nice guitars. I have seen this commercial a few times, sounds good to me. It is in the hands you know.

if you go to the VW web site Dewzel Zapa is doing lessons as well... so the owners of the new guitar can play the thing...

I would never own a guitar that i could go buy at Wal-Mart

Brent-

With all due respect i disagree with you... some people will play anything if given the right amount of money... but they are usually all washed up... and have no other offers on the table.

For me personally I would not take the offer... I would have some self-respect and not even bother... I mean Yeah I have an OLP and what not but it's a very nice guitar and rather unique... and plays like a dream... I also have other guitars that are in the upper market like my ESP's...

Custom First Act Guitars

Hey guys. Just so you all know, First Act does make some custom guitars. I believe the ones you buy at Wal-Mart are still Silvertone, or some old name they revived from the Woolco/Woodwards/Woolworths days.

In The Guitar Buyers Guide for 2007, it shows a bunch of ads for these custom guitars, and they're pretty pricy. I believe the dude from Kelly Clarkson's band plays one. If that doesn't tell you of the quality, then you're all dead to me. Slash who? Hahahahahahahaha. Just kidding. Anyways, if it's allowable, here's the link for their website; just to squash any relation to Wal-Mart.

http://www.firstact.com

Feel free to edit my comment to take out the website; because the last thingI want to be doing at this point is advertising some other guitar company that has to link their products to trendy VWs for sales. Bastards!

The custom line is PRICEY... and Brad Whitford is using them too... so I guess I won't bag on 'em completely... but still partial to what i've got right now...

That commercial looks fine to me. Simple, grabs people’s attention and probably easy to produce and Slash looks cool as usual. I mean, we’re talking about Volkswagen here, how many guitar dudes can pull that off? I’d think lots of guys would do it for free just to gain some mainstream exposure.

But I gotta say VW’s ad campaign is getting more and more bizarre. First the car crash commercials (wtf), now the free guitar? Who’s gonna use the car as an amp? I’d think built-in karaoke is more practical.

... No thanks, I’ll take the free floor mats instead… :D

Check out the tutorial with Dweezil - pretty cool,
who gives a f*ck what th quality of the guitars is about - the campaign isn't about that....

As for the cash - we all do things for money!

We have a VW and it's mega, I won't be buying the guitars, but I might submit a video and make a coconut of myself.

Ok VW is in the dumper in the USA. THey have done a fabulous job of viral and non conventional marketing. Brilliant. (I study this stuff)

My question with this one is who are they selling the low end car to? Dweezil is nearly middle aged and so Slash is. Also First Act got into the business because none of the name brands would sell to the mass merchants. Now they all will and first act is sluggging it out. I think it would have been more effective with a edgy line like Schecteer and use kids that inconic and young. The average 20 year old doesnt know who Dweezil is and may not know who the guy in the funny hat is either.

I couldnt be happier that you can plug your guitar into your car because there is sure as hell fewer and fewer places you can play it live. I also love that they are promoting education and giving palyers a chance to get some exposure.

Dont blame musicians for accepting money or selling a little sould for exposure..it is impossible to get in Hollywood unless you date Paris Hilton.

Paris Hilton wants me you know.......

at least 2 miles away from here at any time!!!

I don't know what the car market is like in the US but a reasonable spec Golf will set you back about £17K over here - ('bout $32?) - I only know people over 30 with that cash sitting around, all my friends under that age know of slash, not dweezil though.......

There'd be 2 names I'd love to see wielding EBMM's........ C'mon Poppa - tell us an endorsee story, please let it be slash!!! - I'd have me one of those as my next ball....... bet it'd have 2 humbuckers and a piezo?
Seriously though, and apologies for going off thread.... I saw when reading up on the CLB foundation Slash had singed a couple of guitars for auction, can you tell us if you've ever had the " Hey, wanna play my guitars?" conversation with him?
