unfortunately no one's talking. i had one particularly crazy crowded show with no elevated stage and honestly, i was dodging pints of beer swinging perilously close to my head. i noticed it when i was putting her away.

Darn, that is some thick paint. Reminds me of '70s Fenders. (Yes, I said "Fender".)

Anyhow, that is a nice scar. I'll either sand it and make it smooth so it won't peel further, or touch it up with some paint.

But it seems that you'll get that puppy looking tough in no time, anyway.

well what i'd love to do... my working theory... is to get some black auto-touch up paint and over a few coats, fill it in.

then maybe a light compounding to smooth it out.

Hey Nicolas,

That's a really close up picture of it, so I can't tell exactly how big it is, but Sharpies and clear nail polish do wonders. Black auto paint would obviously work well too. Jongitarz? Suggestions?

I think it looks cool and adds character. There is nothing worse than a PERFECT bass except a Bass with hidden battle scars..

Try going to Stewmac.com they have some great products. They have some quick dry epoxies that can be tinted or colored and then filed/sanded down using progressively finer grits util the finish blends. The key with a repair that deep is take your time and build up layers if you are using a thin material.

Good luck.

Maybe a call to Customer Services would be worthwhile.

With that thickness of finish I'd be looking at filling 1st before getting the finish and painting to match.

several coats of black nail polish will work nicely (dry completely between coats). then level off lightly w/0000 wool and polish like crazy

Thats one cool battle scar. I had a similar thing happen to a new guitar i bought, within a week it was covered in chips, dings and a huge chunk out of it.
That is a shame though, especially on an SR5, mine was only an Ibanez.

Like wraithwrider said, might be worth tryin customer services, see what they will charge you for it.
Other than that, are there no luthiers/repairmen nearby who can help?

yow! Is that the neck? If it is, I don't think it's a good idea to just leave it there, as it'll probably affect playability.

it's on the edge of the bass' upper hip.

just where you might rest your right forearm.
also almost exactly where a guitar stand might touch the bass on that side.

it's about the width of a thumb nail.

and if for no other reason than it's distracting to feel it on my arm when i'm playing, i need to fix it.

Live with it. Do the nail poish, or super glue fix so it doesn't spread(it probably won't anyway). Any repair will be noticable so, accept, and move on.
