I want to join the EB MM family!

i've been thinking about moving up to a higher quality guitar lately, and while everyone around here tells me "Fender!" "Gibson!"...i don't really like them, so EB seems like a great company to look at


i do a lot of lead work in my playing, and i looooove clean tones, so im looking for a guitar with a piezo, cuz acoustic cleans are sexy

on the other side of the spectrum, i also do a lot of high gain hard rock

the Petrucci seems to be a standout model

as with the SUB guitars, only problem with the SUB ones is that it doesn't look like they come with a peizo option

anyone got any recomendations?

The subs go for about 1/2 of a petrucci.

Finding a pet with a piezo to try may not be easy, but they're out there.

The Petrucci's are cool but in my opinion it's hard to beat an Axis Super Sport w/ piezo. It can do high gain real well.

I'm sure your post will spawn lots of replies from other members congratulating
you on your decision to check EB/MM guitars.

Once upon a time, I was like you, I came to the forum wondering if an EB/MM guitar was the one for me. Everybody was so helpful, answered all my questions, and really made me feel like part of the community. Besides the top notch quality of their products, the forum was another big part of the reason why I chose EB/MM guitars. Questions here are encouraged, not punished.

I'll give ya the same advice that they gave me here way back when. In order to find the right model, you gotta try 'em out and see. This isn't always an easy task as sometimes you gotta do some drivin' 'round to find dealers with 'em in stock.

I picked the Petrucci as it just "felt" right to me. But someday I hope to have one of each model (I know, a lofty goal).

PS: Oh, yeah about the piezo. I also received advice on that way back when
too. If ya can afford to get, definetly do so as you will not regret it

the silhoutte (no i caent speel) seems cool, but i don't like the single coil in the middle, i don't know why, maybe a pet peave or whatever, but i dont like playing guitars like that, get in the way, and i never use them

im gonna be taking a little trip out to a few dealers around to see what EBMMs i can play



i really like the fact im playing an american made guitar too

i use carvin amps, and just the fact they were made here makes em that much cooler haha

I agree about the middle pickup, which always seems to get in the way on a strat. However, you should try out a Silhouette as for some reason, it doesn't get in my way when I pick. Maybe it's positioned slightly differently, or I hold a Sil a different way - best thing to do is try out every model, if you can find that mystical magical guitar store that carries every EBMM option and has piezo equipped models in stock.

I personally would stay clear of the Sub 1s. Not because I'm being a snob, but I don't personally like the finish on the back of the necks. Just my 2 cents

I'm sorry, but the guy said he loves clean tones - an EVH is not exactly my first choice when I think of playing clean. They do have the best necks, however...

As far as I know you can get, but possibly not find:

Petrucci with piezo
Axis ss with piezo
Silo with piezo (or silo special, can't remember)
Albert Lee with piezo
Luke with piezo

The Albert and Silo don't have a switch for the piezo, just a seperate vol knob for it. The Luke, axis ss and Petrucci have a switch and a volume knob.

The Albert (3 singles) can be ordered with 2 different single coils (alnico 2 or P90's), the axis ss also comes with P90's (2 of 'em and a 3 way swich) or hums with a 5 way. The Luke with emg's (5 way). The pet has a 3 way with hums.

You'll get no consensus here which to buy, as it's not a one size fits all kinda thing.

But you may find yourself buying more than one anyways. Most of us have.

I might have to get an Albert with piezo next. I can't believe I just said that! I just got it!!

It can do lead soloing, crunch rhythm, it can do acoustic with the piezo, and it also has a very nice clean sound with the magnetic pickups only, with the pickup selector toggle in the middle position.

So buy one today! I think Pete DuBaldo has at least three Petrucci's with Piezo on order...

And Sil Spec is confirmed for piezo availability.

Juyst buy a few and have fun switching between them, that is what most of us on the forum do as keith noted.

Ditto! My favorite things about the Petrucci model are the neck, which is fast and has required me to improve my playing style. When I first got it I would literally get going so fast I'd fly off the neck. The extra muscles and bad habits I'd acquired playing a guitar with heavier action had go in favor of finesse and control. My other fave is the sound I get playing with both toggles in the middle - Which creates a 3 way mix between one coil from each humbucker and the piezo. With a little reverb and presence on the amp it just sparkles. I'd strongly recommend the JP model.

the Petrucci still seems to be in the lead though

so if things continue this way i might be purchasing one in either Desert Gold, Mystic Dream, or Pearl Redburst (which i've been digging a lot lately)
