Off Topic I was just banned from TalkBass?

Each time a user receives an infraction, he is automatically pm'ed by the system.

Believe me, I took all the care that is required :

1/ Found 17 obsolete bumps in his thread, including many that were bump abuse (more than one bump a day - that's the rule at TB) - just sent an infraction with the whole explanations. Jlepre replied to me saying he did not know and that as of now, he would take care of his bumps.

2/ Next day, same thing : new bump, no deletion of previous one. (And yes, I first checked if he had had the time to delete it). New infraction.

3/ Saturday, same thing again.

Doesn't that cover the one bump a day rule? He bumped the day after he got the message to chill out. then that saturday. So thursday, friday, saturday? Unless he bumped more than once on friday and saturday...i think he's okay? Whatever, this shouldn't be a problem.

Pittman, please may I ask you to read carefully what was explained ?

Ok, let's start again.

There are two rules about bumps on TB.

1/ You are allowed to bump, but you must delete the previous bumps.
2/ You are not allowed to bump more than once per 24 hour.

Jlepre committed infractions on both sides.

First time I checked this thread (Thursday), there were 17 undeleted bumps, including many that were in time laps way shorter than 24 hours (sometimes 3 bumps a day). Jlepre was warned. This should have deserved two infractions, I gave one.

He replied, saying he was sorry etc.

Thanks for the information. I had no idea that I was supposed to delete old bumps. I've only sold one thing on TB, so I was unaware. Also I didn't realize that I had bumped more than once a day. I will be more careful inthe future.

Next day (Friday), new bump. No deletion of the old one. New infraction. No reply from Jlepre.

Saturday : new bump again. And once again, no deletion of the old one. New infraction.

Has this ever happened to anyone else? I'm not trying to bash TB, but I'm very confused how this happened.

I was WARNED once about bump abuse 2 days ago. I apologized because I actually had no idea that I was abusing ANYTHING. Now I bumped my for sale ad this morning and I got instantly banned? I thought you could BUMP once every 24 hour period, but I guess I misunderstood. :(

When you bump, don't for get to delete previous bumps. It's how I do it and I've never had a problem (even doing it every 24 hrs).

That's the most correct way to do, Brim.

Now if you want my very personal opinion, I think bumps shouldn't even be allowed. That would clarify many things and that would serve the general quality of forum content.

I am a member of TB, and while I have been treated like crap a few times, the majority of the members are very helpful. And I am going to have to side with jaylegroove on this. It was an infraction. He shouldnt have come on here to complain for something that was his fault.

That would work if there were more sub-forums to keep the traffic per forum to a manageable level. Who wants to open the Basses For Sale thread to find that 3 pages of topics have been added since the previous day? The fact that the forums at TB are so general is the main reason it's hell to navigate and keep up.

For example, they could separate the Basses For Sale forum into a number of sub-forums -

Basses under $300
Basses $300 to $999
Basses $1000 to $1999
Basses $2000+
and maybe a lefty sub-forum, or a section for fivers and above

Easy to do, and would actually be more practical for both buyers and sellers.

Then, some thought needs to go into dividing up the main bass forum there, which is impossible to keep up with, unless you're a 24/7 forum reader.

OK

You know that thread where I posted our side of the jackass that sold his sr5 pickup and then twisted all of the facts? Yeah the one where one poster thought is was bad of me to tell our side? This is very similar.... Except from my seat Im not sure Talk bass would allow anyone to defend us there.

I dont want to turn this into a talk bass pro or con (except for the bashings I take there).

I like the internet when both sides get told. I also will ask that if what Jayle says is true that the original poster learn something here.

Putting Ernie Ball forum with a alleged one sided bad story about TB only fuels the already bad relationship we have with TB. That is not fair because TB'ers will start bashing in defense of the guys who pile on here..

> Mark : I agree with you, but at the same time TBers are pretty used to these big amounts of threads, posts, pages, etc. And if you're looking for, say, an SR5 in the classifieds, the search engine is pretty useful to target your search (same engine as here - vBulletin)

> BP : Once again I apologize. Your forum is definitely NOT the place for TB customer service. But on the other side, I could not let Jlepre's thread one-sided. And the most obvious reason for me is that I love TB as well as I love your forum, and vice versa.

All this talk about bumps makes me think someone will need a soothing cream.

No offense, but this has to be one of the more trivial threads I've ever seen on any internet forum. I did pick up a cool phrase, though ... "mod job". I like that. "Hey, how much for a mod job?". :)

To be a good member on TB you need to have your dog mad at you and ask for advice about that. Or my pimples won't go away what do I do? :D

tk

Believe me, due to the number of posts, of mistakes committed, of incivilities, etc., being a mod at TB could be a full-time job. :)

call me stupid but I can't find the actual "rules" on bumping. I found the definition in the selling section but no rules. I wanted to know them because I'm trying to sell my first bass on TB (getting no love though :( ). I don't see the rule about deleting old bumps.

Oh well.
