The one thing that i really like about EBMM (and this isn't meant as a knock at all) is that they're kind of a sleeper guitar... meaning they're not mass produced so you don't see a whole lot of them which in turn creates a mystique about them...
that being said when i first got my 20th there were those that didn't get it... they knew the Sterling bass but they didn't know the guitars... and they were blown away... and now they just love the EBMM guitars...

so don't worry about what they say now... one day they will see the light and applaud your trade like we do.

I never thought of getting a EBMM before. I've seen them at G.C. and different people playing them but really never thought to own one. I have never seen any band around here using one ever , and i have been playing in clubs 3 days a week for at least 15 years. The only odd guitars I have ever seen is the occasional Parker and maybe a few P.R.S.
I'm really glad i decided to meet the guy to trade.

When i was younger my first run in with EBMM was seeing the natty EVH that was on the cover a guitar magazine (don't remember the exact book) and then kinda forgot about them over the years and picked up an OLP and was given some false information about it which lead me to this wonderful place. At that time all i could afford was the OLP never thinking i could actually afford the real deal... and then i got a 20th... end of story

i remember seeing a deep purple concert and seeing steve morse's guitar and thinking it was cool looking guitar then looking it up online but never reallly thought about owning one. And I have always loved the look of EBMM headstocks compared to any of the other ones , something about the 4 and 2 always looked cool to me

Dealer possibly looking at it from a money making point of view - what you traded he could sell 9 times over - (not saying that you couldn't sell Y2D's, just more kids on TV playing what you traded)

but in terms of quality playabilty etc - no contest - :D

If the object of the exercise was to make profit then the dealer might have a point - but if the object of the exercise is to have a musical instrument (i.e. for playing...) then you did the right thing.

Retail has had it hard for a few years, and a lot of dealers haven't embraced things that aren't mainstream safe options - which is why alot of them closed last year.

oh yes there is a good amount of crappy tone. The guy that took over for me in my old band showed up with a marshall mg and a floor processor and it just sounded so fake. i know some people can make anything sound good but having good equipment helps too. i see a lot of line 6 spyders on stage around here. and always wonder why not spend a little extra for something thats more reliable and sounds better

You know a good player can make do with whatever hes got but a bad player can sound like ****e through anything lol. I can deal with an average amp, but having a good guitar is a must for me.

who cares? as long as you are happier with your Y2D.

How come someone can compare EBMM production with Dean? they are not in the same league

EVERYONE knows that playing a Les Paul will INSTANTLY improve your technique and sound. In fact you can skip 10 years of practise just by getting the top-of-the-range one.

I really do not understand why anyone should care what someone else thinks about there gear, which is a subject that gets me twisted. The only thing that matters is if a guitar sounds and feels right for you. I am 48 and not 15 and in High School which is exactly how a lot of gear snob collectors act. I think there are to many people that get hung up on gear and forget why they picked up a guitar in the first place- to make music.

I have not spent thousands of hours of my life practicing to say look how nice or how much my guitar is, I have done it so I could pretty much hear any song I like and be able to play it. I also am not big on knocking what guitar someone else plays. I spent 8 years playing guitars that I could not even tell you what brand they were before I got a name brand guitar, but when I bought it I could play, which is what this is all about. I think everyone can take a stab that I am a huge Brian Setzer fan and I always wanted a Gretsch like his. Well in my late twenties Sam Ash had a used one and I almost bought it without even plugging it in as I just wanted to get it home. Anyway I plugged it in and was horrified that it was just not for me with that big hollow body and Bigsby, I actually sat there 3 hours trying to connect with that ax but it was a no go. So could I say they suck, well all one has to do is here Setzer or Chet Atkins play to answer that one. Years later I read an interview with Setzer in which he said solid body guitars just feel weird to him, so go figure.

gforce you sound really happy with your new Y2D and it seems everyone cameout a winner in the trade, and that is all that should matter. In the last twenty years EB has made guitars for Vanhalen, Morse, Lee, Luke and Petrucci all who are some of the greatest players on the planet so that should tell you all you need to know. Now go have some fun and make some music.

To each his own. I would think he is very misinformed. I mean, some of the world's best players use EBMM. Luke, Morse, JP, Bonamassa, Johnny Highland, koogie2k (<- not really...lol) and I would think they know what they are talking about. Morse has been with EBMM over 20 years.....that has to tell you something. Either you like them or don't. If not, no biggie. You got what you wanted and that is all that matters.

Some players are endorsing guitars they don't really play.

It's not the case with EBMM : the only case where Steve Morse is not playing his EBMM is when he is playing classical guitar. Otherwise, he always plays his EBMM Sig (in studio and in concert).
That's the same with Lukather, Petrucci ...

.....I get this crap a lot, one I got quite recently was a guy walk up to be at a gig - glance over at my guitars and say 'Couldn't you afford a Fender?' I managed to retain all dignity and explain politely that you can buy three Strats for the price of one of my MusicMan and that folks that don't know a great deal about guitars always make comments like that because they don't know any better.

At which point he disappeared and I smiled to myself.....

the morse is great , the les paul to me wasnt so great but to the guy that has it now he loves it.

Looks like both you and the guy you traded with are happy with the transaction. That's a win-win situation. It's all about what feels and sounds right to you as a musician.

Most folks that actually listen to what you are playing really don't care.

+1

Besides man, here we have talked enough about how stores' salemen talk 75% of lies the other 25% is about self-or- someone else-experience (which is subjective). You made a good choice!, that was your experience now you dont have anything else left, but enjoy your guitar.

That's not true at all. I always have my questions accurately and honestly answered at the music stores I visit. Of course, it's pretty hard to screw up the answer to "can I have a cord to use?".

:D
