Fascinating, guitarists whining about other peoples gear. I heared great players sound amazing through supposedly crappy gear (Chuck Schuldiner and his Marshall Valvestate comes to mind) and the other way around. I love picking out the guitarists in the crowd, stereotypically with arms folded, frowning, checking out the player on stage, trying to detect the errors and b*tching about the "tone"

I play what I like nowadays. I don't care if anyone thinks I'm raving mad because I don't play the "cool stuff". I wish I would have discovered EBMM sooner btw and not remain in the "happening" brands corner. Not my shops fault btw, they always encourage everybody to try everything, think outside the box. Then again they only carry gear with excellent quality and value-for-money which is getting rare unfortunately. Unbiased advise FTW!

i was standing next to a bass player from another band as we were watching a band every second he was like he missed this part , that didnt sound right , look how bad he looks , the drum part was wrong, i had to walk away i couldnt take it.
i use a yamaha dg 100 amp live cause it sounds really good , pretty close to tube and i dont have to worry about breaking tubes or anything like that i play out alot and i like an amp that can handle it and the yamaha handles everything i throw at it.

I was talking to someone at a music store and told him about my trade. His exacts words were "why would you trade your les Paul for a guitar that is only a step up from a dean" I toldhim you can't knock one till you have tried one but whatever I guess everyone has their opinion. Maybe he's just jealous he doesn't have one .

You should have asked him which MM he was referring to?
If he's programmed anything out there isn't as good as a LP or a Str... I'm surprised he even knew about Dean guitars.
Then again I'm not. He's obviously familiar with inferior brands. It would suit me fine to have a few minutes with that guy.
On another note, while shopping for a Luke I asked a sales guy what he had in stock.. {big store} He answered: A what? I said: A Music Man, The Luke model, You know Steve Luthaker.. Toto?? He then replied, We only get that J something model once in a while. I laughed my ass off.

Most recently, I had a 25th plugged into a Lonestar and the employee told me if I want great Mesa cleans and great Mesa dirt in the same amp I should check out the Dual Rectifier because Dual meant one clean and one dirty. Just for fun, I asked him what a Triple Rectifier was...

It's a shame that the GC in my area only has the petrucci models that are so beat on necks warped teenagers just wailing on them no wonder why no one will buy one they just don't play right. The one I played there the action was so high it was unplayable so if that's peoples first impression of a music man it's sad

I'm with straycat on this one, the most important thing is finding one that's right for you. Screw what anyone else says about it.

In my pre-Axis pawn shop days, I played a Squier that I really liked. At the time, I had what my friends considered a "higher quality" guitar, and they gave me quite a bit of grief about playing the other one. But the cheaper one fit me a whole lot better. I still have the Korean guitar, but the "higher quality" one is long gone.

Around here, typically the older guys I run into think there are two brands of guitar -- F and G -- and if you don't have one of them, you don't have a good guitar. The younger players tend to go for Ibanez and a few for PRS. I could care less. I know that if I had any actual talent, my Axis could blow all of their preferred brands away.

For the most part, only the bass players around here are down with EBMM, so I limit my gear conversations to them.

As a side note, I was pleasantly surprised the last time I was in a GC a year or so ago (I don't get over that way much these days). I asked to play a BFR rosewood Axis they had behind the counter. When the guy got it down and handed it to me, he said something to the effect that not many people had shown an interest in it, but it was the baddest guitar they had in the store. Some of them do know what they're talking about.

I really do not understand why anyone should care what someone else thinks about there gear, which is a subject that gets me twisted. The only thing that matters is if a guitar sounds and feels right for you. I am 48 and not 15 and in High School which is exactly how a lot of gear snob collectors act. I think there are to many people that get hung up on gear and forget why they picked up a guitar in the first place- to make music.

My point! I never meant to bash every single salesman, is just that you can see when someone is not giving you accurate information. Bottom line, like I said you did a wise choice!

i over heard a salesman selling a strat one day and the guy playing said the strings really buzz alot salesman answer"thats whats strats are supposed to do they buzz crank up the distortion and you'll never notice" needless to say i believe the guy walked out disgusted but it was funny for the people that heard it.

I've met some VERY informative and intelligent employee's at GC. Like all stores, some employers love their job more than others.

I have had very mixed experiences, but I think for the most part they are positive.

in rhode island the guitarists are very opinionated and not too friendly towards each other. Most, not all like to just trash talk each other and their choice of equipment. you always here how can you use (insert equip here) its a piece of junk use this instead. i remember getting hell from a guitar teacher i once had cause of my pick choices.
