btw monkeee -- great sound clip, cool song, cool bassline, and great sound. Are you playing with flats? almost has me reconsidering my position on the SR5 vs. Bongo debate...

spencer -- get a Ray or a SR5 (you need those extra lows in church..), put some flats on it, and go. Flats also sound great with a pick.

I think its so funny how oppinions differ. You think its the best looking bass you have ever seen but I think its the ulgyest bass I have ever seen. And has no classic look to it at all.

Listen, classic looks are not an opinion, ass hat! There are a few classic basses, P, J, Ric, Stingray and a few others, and those are classics any way you look at it.
And insulting a timeless classic here on home turf won't get you anything but crap in my book! Now where's Koogs...?

I read this thread and i can only say i think you need to get your **** together, stop looking for a bass that sounds like you want it to and accept that most of the sound comes from your fingers!

Sorry didn't mean to offend anybody but I was just saying one person can think something is great and the other the total opposite. First time I realized this lol.

And you can say it all comes from your fingers but I sound completely diffrent from bass to bass and even the same model.

Im looking at a Stingray HS It seems to have the best of both worlds, the P and the Stingray.

I think Strummer was just pointing out that it isn't terribly polite to call another man's bass "ugly".

I know they do it elsewhere, but we're better than that.

(Have you seen Heinz the Wonder Bass?)

People called my trans red SR5 ugly when I put the black pearl on with the white pup. I actually still kind of like it.

Of course, I like the way Heinz looks too. So don't listen to me.

Devon Evans said something profound to me once... actually to my bandmate. "The best drum is the one in front of you." Naturally, being a bassist, I can say the best Ernie Ball Musicman bass is the one in front of you. You'll be GASing for life if you don't stop now!

Hey, I'm sorry I was a bit harsh, it was late and I just didn't see any respect and too much attitude. Many of us here have played for many, many years, myself just over 20, and in that time most of us have owned loads of basses. And while you are correct of course in that basses sound different (hell my bongos dont sound the same), many ppl looking for the perfect bass should imho look into perfecting their tecnique sound wise. I suck at palying bass in one aspect, can't play fast at all, but I have ok time and feel and since a couple of years also tone. Before that I was just as frustrated as you are, now I can play a Bongo sans preamp (like this wek end) and still make it work in a band situation, or I can play a P, J or those silly japanese thingies and still tey work.
Now get a HS and woodshed:)

See, this is ok, as opposed to saying the Stingray isn't a classic. You are wrong, of course, but then I just learned you are also young and therefore excused.
Myself, I bought my first Bongo without playing it (or any other Bongo) on looks alone:D
