Obviously some sort of 12-Step Program .....

"Hello. My name is Azzy, and I'm a Bongoloid, StingRay lovin', Sterling playing thudwacker."

I was talking about the Bass Centre in Birmingham.

I think it might have changed its name to World of Guitars. Anyway, it was at
Queensway Arches in Livery Street

Thanks for that Dave. That IS the place I was looking for, and actually just down the street from Sound Control. Funny thing is I attempted to get there by car, but found myself totally messed up by one-way streets that it seemed impossible to get where I needed to go! Now I look at that map you posted, and I cannot but laugh at how right I was! Check out the one-way street system around that place. I don't think they want to be found!!!

I don't think Jack and Dude are going to like selling you a bass seeing as you are not a US resident

Well, I'm sure we'd both very much LIKE to, but alas, it is not to be.

Short of that, I'd be happy to help out however I can.

I gave my accordian to a music school in Nicaragua, thru a church. Maybe something like that can be 'arranged'? I did that before the Patriot Act of course .......

No probs - got Dude to give me pricing for a Cafe Walter - so I can hear how truly shocking my playing really is ;)

Thankyou Dave & dlloyd for the shop recommendations - I didn't really think about going to Birmingham and London - even though it's blindingly obvious really.

See, now I want a Sterling again! (Though I should have known BP would say Sterling I was expecting him to say Bongo!)

Right - I have emailed a selection of stores to try and find the most competitive pricing for a Sterling HSC.

Thats' the easy part - I am clueless when it comes to picking the colour. My current bass is trans red, so as much as I love it, I shouldn't really have 2 in the same colour. I would have got a Treacle bass (DG with white ice PG after the cat in my avatar) but whilst that looks great on a Bongo, not too sure how well it'll work on a Sterling.

So it seems I am back to the drawing board!

But thanks all for the help with picking the bass to start with.

Let the saving commence!!!

(I'm getting confused by some sites which list these colours as still available, so could someone enlighten me as to whether Pearl Lavender or any of the purple finishes are still available for purchase?)

Pearl Lavender is no long offered by the factory. Although a few have popped up new old stock (nos). But you'd only have the single H as an option.

I think Rolls Burgundy is the closest to purple nowadays but definitely dark.

What about medallion gold or trans gold or trans orange? Phatty's got examples of medallion gold and trans gold here:

Hope Arin doesn't mind but I've already saved those photos to my computer to help in the hunt!!! :D

It's almost like MM offer TOO much choice - which for someone like me is a very very bad thing :)

Once you get the quotes back, see if the other stores can match or beat the lowest price.

That's my plan - an online shop in Brighton promise to match or beat any other online quote, and they are the store I would prefer to order from!

Cue getting Trev to do some overtime at work and the selling of a kidney to get one asap!

Option shock can be most not fun. I went round and round on my latest Bongo order. Blue Pearl -> Teal Pearl -> CAR ->Blue Pearl -> ad infinitum (really was ad nauseum). Finally put my finger down on one and said this is it. Opened my eyes and it happened to be Blue Pearl. Then came the pg  I'll just say, I ordered 2...

ROFL :D

That will most definately be me in the coming few months. Never mind what neck I want, do I want a matching headstock blah blah blah. Least the guitar and pickup config is sorted already!

What 2 PGs did you go for in the end? :D

White Ice and Black Ice. I figure, in the least, I can change up the look of the bass when I get bored.

Can't wait to see what you order. Hopefully it will be sooner rather than later. Also, keep in mind that there is about a 3 month backlog at the factory. So you might want to strategize your ordering.

Me either! I probably won't have decided by the time I've saved the cash up :p

That's one of the things I like about this place - when someone buys a bass it's a big deal for the whole forum :D

Perhaps I should keep a diary of my ever changing decision:

March 8th: Really liking the desert gold with white ice pg
May 10th: Saw Arin's new bass today - want medallion gold!

It'd drive you all nuts :D

With that cat, whatever bass you buy must have a tort pickguard.
I think you may be right - unless I go for DG with black pups and a white ice pg - then that's Treacle recreated properly! :D

Having said that, knowing you, I'm surprised tort wasn't mentioned sooner! :)
