So JP used something in his EBMMs before the CL/LF combo?

Yes. First models used custom bridge and neck pickups, based on the Steve's Special and Air Norton. Around 2006 or 2007, he switched to the Drop Sonic/custom neck based on Air Norton. In 2009, he switched to Crunchlab/Liquifier.

Maybe its just my guitars - but I have a JP6 and JPX with the CL/LF combo and as well as a Majesty (with Illuminators)

To me it seems the CL/LF do not have as much output and are clearer. My Majesty is louder and overdrives the amp more. Not a complaint - very happy, just was curious if anyone else has noticed that?

Yup, the Illuminators surely sound louder and more overdriven than the CL/LF for me. Comparing between my JP6 and the JP15.

Those are hot pickups!

I used to own a JP7 with the original pickups and I still regret selling that sometimes. The Illuminators are pretty hot compared to the CL/LF but I think they're a tighter and more versatile set.

katsumura...なんか日本人っぽい笑。 I like the CL but don't like the liquifire that much. It has a very dark and chopped treble tone.

Interesting, you might like the Titan neck pickup.

In the soundclips ive heard it seems pretty dark as well. I like the dimarzio d activator and air norton neck pickups, the AN being about as warm as i want to go. I really like that sort of clicky sound of the pick attack during fast runs.
I also really like the Caparison stock pickups made by Gotoh. Its strange because gotoh also makes stock pickups for ibanez which i dont like at all.

I'm thinking about doing some pickup changes on my JP's.

I have a JPX and a JP12, both with the stock pickups, I like the CL/LF on the JP12, on my JPX though I don't like too much, it sounds muddy, almost like the tone knob is at 5. I'm thinking about going with Illuminators in one of them and a different brand in the other, maybe suhr or bare knuckle.

Has anyone tried the Illuminators on a JP12? Well given the basswood body I think it would sound pretty similar to the jp13.

Thinking about the Suhr Doug Aldrich set on my JPX, they are pretty hot. Has anyone tried them on a JP?

But we have to observe that the illuminators are being aldo preamplified by the onboard preamp in the jp13, jp15 and majesty, so, of corse it will sound louder and clearer. I installed a pair of dimarzio transitions in a guitar i have, but my Luke 3 is still louder, because of the preamp, i guess.
