Just ask the Axis... :D

I picked this beauty up from fellow knucklehead meenahga. She's beautiful... there's a depth to the flame that can't be captured with my camera, and the birdseye on the neck is beautiful.

I had a gold Axis briefly once before but I sold it... i just didn't dig the way the Floyd made the guitar feel. In a hardtail form... whole different story. Balanced, focused, sustain for days.

There's an EMG81 in the neck and an 85 in the bridge right now. I'm not a fan of the 81 so I'm going to switch to a 60A and experiment with some Duncan actives (Livewire Classic II, Blackouts, Dave Mustaine Livewires) as well.

I'd also like to extend a public thanks to Meenahga as well. i made a mistake in giving him my shipping address but he talked me through it and helped me get the guitar. He also gave me a complete breakdown of the shipping and other costs in the final price and packed the guitar well enough that it probably would have survived falling out of a plane. He was a real pleasure to deal with.

Anyways, just thought I'd share!

Your red is so confident he flashes trophies of war and ribbons of euphoria.
Congratulations and enjoy!

YES!! HAHA I didn't even think about the significance of that line even though I was singing the song in my head as I typed the post! You rock, man!

Sweet flametop. Congrats!

Yeah it's beautiful... I opened the case for the first time and I was like... Woooowwww!!!

The EMGs look really cool with the Black Cherry Burst. You got yourself a looker!

They do look sexy. Mean and streamlined. Although I'm curious as to how it would look if I changed to chrome knobs and pickups...

Yo... was working on this guitar tonight and I actually found out that this guitar has an 81 in the bridge and and EMG-H in the neck, not an 81n/85b like I was told. Doesn't matter, I was gonna change 'em anyways!

I'm gonna try the 81 in rehearsal and see what my ears tell me about what direction I want to go. I've never really dug 81s but this guitar sounds good in my POD with one... I wanna see how it behaves with a real amp before I make my decision. That EMG-H has got to go, though. :(

I like the Duncan JB and according to several Duncan forumites, the LW Mustaine bridge does sound very much like an active JB, so I may look into those later. I'm still not sure about the Blackout Metal. In the clips of it I've heard next to an 81, the Blackout Metal does clean better but the 81 sounds tighter and less middy with distortion. On paper and from what I hear in demos, I think the regular Blackouts might be more my style.

The other funny thing here is that I'm gonna have to file out the nut slightly to fit my .052 low E in there. As it is right now the slot is too small and it's not quite sitting flush in there and is riding too high. Minor details. :D

I have heard about those... basically the X versions are lower noise and more headroom, right?

I should also mention should I find out that active pickups aren't my bag, I'm gonna throw an Air Norton in the neck and an Air Zone in the bridge and be done with it. :D

Really, really, nice.

Would love to see more pics of that axe, I admired it from afar in the For Sale thread.

That is one sweet looking ax. I would not be so quick to 86 the EMGs. I would put it through a good session and see how they sound.

I did at rehearsal tonight. The H is just a no-go all around and the 81 sounded OK but still not quite my style. I've used an 85b/60An combo and did enjoy that very much, so I'll try that in this guitar next.

Noooooooo! Don’t do it. Leave it all black. Change the blade knob to black as well. Then you probably got yourself “a one of a kind”.

Great color on your guitar ! Try the Suhr Doug Aldrich pickup. Super Hot pickup.

I've heard good things about those.

Yeah, I think the red top/chrome look works for the 25th guitars, though. ;) You're right... black it is.
