Such a great bass (I don't have the heart to flip it :D). If it wasn't for the screws it would be drop-dead!!! Wonder if we'll ever have a no pg option (no criticism BP - just a random thought) Kermit is awesome without the pg too - but that bass has some serious MOJO Chuck!!!

I like the look of the Bongos without pickguards (and, apparently, so does Pino Palladino if the Who concerts are any indiciation), but I don't like the visible screwholes.

I recommend getting a clear pickguard for it, Chuck.

Same as Oddjob...no criticizm, but if the Bongo came with no pickguard option I would probably fall to the temptation.

Hmmmm....

I might have to check and see whats under the hood on mine. I like the cracked ice p/g, but a naked DG Bongo might be pretty wicked.

Sorry, but I have to disagree here.

To my eye, the pickguard is a key part of the Bongo's look.

The Bongo styling is all about a theme of repeating, but different curves...the headstock echoes the horns, the curve of the controls echoes the overall shape, etc. etc.

The pickguard plays into that and reinforces it. Ever notice how the curve of the pickguard, the curve of the controls and the curve of the body are all different, but perfectly complementary?

That's no accident. BP has a really good eye.

To me, nekkid Bongos look a bit chubby.

If you like it better nekkid then that's the right answer for you. But at least try putting the pickguard back on after a couple of months (to let the novelty wear off) and ask yourself objectively whether it really does look better without it or not.

Hi all !
Newbie here. My first 2 cents.
Took these while I was setting TI flats:

A little bit of photo$$op to hide the screw holes on the last one.
Tried with the screws but finally put back my abalone PG.
Perhaps someday...

Some of us like chubby chicks (did I just say that - now I'll have to sleep with one eye open )-

Nah it is all about personal taste (as always) - It is like the HH/HS/H arguement. You can make a case for any of them, but when it comes down to it, you have to play it so it should be what you like and not anyone else. It is a mater of respecting the other view (not necessarily liking it, but atleast being respectful of another pov). So more power to those of you going naked (the bass Chuck... not your clothes)!!!!!
