But if you've never played a fretless before you wouldn't have that tendency, right? You'd go for the line, just as you go for a fret...
Nope... On a fretted bass I go for "between the frets" and feared I would have a tendency to go "between the lines"!

I am the moderator of the fretless forum on the Dudepit and we still whip this dead horse over there. LOL

I've owned both lined and unlined fretless electric basses. I prefer lines on the electric and no lines on my upright.

If you want an unlined electric bass or an upright with lines, I say you should have them.

I do admit that a blank fingerboard looks cool, however, I prefer for it to be ebony and have some figure in it. That's just me though. I love figure in wood.

Gotta go practice my intonation on my Pentabuzz now. LOL

Lines.

Blank planks look cool, but so what? What's more important...the way you look or the way you sound?

I'd rather sound good than look good any day.

Nobody cares anyway, except perhaps other bassists. Going blank proves precisely nothing...it's just aesthetics.

If the lines help (and they do, IMHO), then I'm all for 'em.

+1

I'd go lined cause getting the notes just right is more important to the songs and to your bandmates than how pretty your fingerboard looks. Besides it'll look pretty with the extra DD inlays anyway.

Is this your first fretless bass? After you get used to them and everything becomes automatic you can always get an unlined one. The person who posted about sometimes not hearing yourself that well in live situations brings up the best point to consider.

unlined looks way cooler
you've got the side dots
and you'll learn your spacing. just give it some love and attention. your intonation will get there.

I would rather worry about a forum brothers sister than I would beat a dead horse to death myself.

Choices are tough yeah, but once you make them they are yours and they don't have to be the same as mine.

i looked on this forum and i couldn't find anything on lined vs. unlined, was it really a dead horse?
Not to worry; a good dead horse like this one is worth the extra mileage. The most important thing is you getting what you want. Either way, you'll get a fine bass.

Something I never considered until now myself. Thanks, that tells me what I would want in a fretless.

Jaco is the baddest fretless player of all time and he had lines... I like the unlined look myself, though.
