So everyone that has been to the "Looking for Big Al for my daughter" should know who I am… Yes, LawDaddy's daughter is finally here, WITH pics of the new Big Al!

Well here they are… My new Big Al bass!

Beautiful, isn't he? The first thing I screamed about was the colour… My old Fender P was that pretty colour; I see a theme here.

I guess now to make this a real intro thread, I guess I'll reiterate what I'm guessing LawDaddy has said about me so far. My name is Nicole, but you can call me Nikki. I'm 16, been playing bass for 2 years now. I play in my school's jazz band, fretless, and can read bass clef pretty proficiently. I mostly play Stax/soul stuff with my dad, but I enjoy playing just about anything I can get my hands on. And, well… I guess that's about it! Enjoy the photos.

Yay! One of the most anticipated NBD (new bass day) threads of the year! Your dad kept the cat in the bag pretty well, even here.

With that said, welcome to this little piece of Internet haven for perfectly imperfect players and enthusiasts! The Big Al is fantastic and major kudos on learning fretless and sight reading for that matter.

I hope you enjoy and Merry Christmas. :)

Nikki - doesn't that Big Al play like a dream? All-buttons-up if you have an attitude. First 2 buttons down for a smooth jazz feel. Enjoy!!

Congrats on a great bass in a great colour and one hell-of-a Christmas present!

Fretless and a proficient reader? I am impressed!

Welcome to the forum.

Thanks for the welcomes and the compliments to my bass, everybody!

It plays soooo amazing. My bass teacher kinda freaked out when he saw it. He's jealous. And thanks for the tip, I figured out the jazz part. I play usually with all buttons down, it gives it a nice even, full tone. Or so I think.

Welcome to the fun! Fantastic looking Bass! You have an awesome Mom & Dad.

Oh, please elaborate :D

In the end, it is what you think of your tone that counts. This bass will give you all types of tones to express your music.

Congrats again :)

and your old man is quite the guy eh?

Mrs. LawDaddy gets the credit -- she bought me my first EBMM (an EVH) back in the mid-'90s. Hooked from there.

Thanks for the warm welcome for her, and wish her luck on a full night's gig this coming New Year's Eve. Trio + singer format, ~35 tunes, plenty of space to hear the BASSS sing.

/Dad's leaving now...
