The thing is...why would a simple string gauge change require a truss rod adjustment? I don't think it should, as I've never seen such a thing. And then just to go cranking on the truss rod when that's not even the problem is not a good thing. Truss rod should be a last resort and cranking away on it without knowing exactly what you're doing is a recipe for disaster.

Am I correct in my thinking? Or am I just spoiled by 15 years of playing with 20 or so different instruments and NEVER needing to touch a truss rod other than the initial setup?

I believe going from .010's to the lighter .009's reduces the tension on the neck. So the Truss rod would need loosening to get relief back to where it was. Loosening the Truss rod is not dangerous (unless you let the nut fall off!)

jp's have thin shredder necks so they are a little more sensitive to string gage changes then a guitar with a thicker neck and musicman necks have the oil finish so they will require the ocasional tweek of the truss rod now and again. its not a big deal

huh? A change of SEASONS requires (and I mean requires!) a truss rod adjustment where I live... I've always, always tweaked the trussrod prior to adjusting the intonation on any guitar when changing string gauge...

Dang, guess I'm just lucky! I think I've adjusted 2 truss rods in my life!

when I played my JP6 in the store I LOVED the neck...

... when I got it home and realized how amazingly thin it was: I put the set of 9's in my hand back in the case and took it to a pro so that I woulden't be tempted to do anything stupid to that perfect, little neck.

one of the thing I love about MM's is that while ALL of mine require frequent, MINOR adjustment's to that amazing little wheel at the bottom of the neck, a very little twist goes a long long way, and it never throws off intonation like it does on my les paul (which I play once a month to remind me why it is that I play MusicMan's... yeah, my Axis SS TOTALLY replaced my Paul in less than a week... perfection).

Episode Ii

:)
Hi there

It`s me again with next episode of EBMM JP6.

It is a 6th day that I am out of my guitar. Actually my guitar is now for 6 days in Marving store for repairement, and today owner called me and confirmed me that they made some progress in neck fixing but they want be shure that this is a permament fix-up not just just a tweak. They really care for my satisfaction and EBMM reputation in our country. So, they offered me to go tomorow to their service and check functionallity of truss rod, and in a case that everything is OK they will give me back my instrument (I am prepareing to take a free day(s) just to play EBMM JP again;) ). Otherwise they will send the neck for replacement. Form me it is OK but I`m wondering how long neck replacement will take for? Week, weeks, month or months????? I am ready to take extra charges for faster shipment etc. Any expiriences with this kind of situation????

Thank You

P.S.

I did not forget my promise .............:) :)
This is only 50 smileys .... rest will follow I hope .....a and offcourse not only this and here.....
TO BE CONTINUED....................

Send it to me, and I'll fix it up for you!

Just kidding. I wouldn't send my guitar to someone I didn't know, either. But I put 9's on my JP, no problem, but went back to 10's (without a problem as well, I just prefer them).

I actually thought my JP came with 9's on it, and I restrung it and noticed a little fret buzz. I contributed it to weather, so I set it up and it was fine. No problems and no major adjustments. But when I found out it came with 10's, I went ahead and put them back on (like an hour later, with no problems as well).

I'm sure you should have no problem, or in a worst-case scenario, just stick with the 10's, you'll get used to them in no time.

Lefty Loosy... Righty Tighty.

Clockwise to straighten it... right?

Counter-clockwise for relief?

I need to know so when I get my first Ball (Blue Quilt EBMM EVH) I will know how to treat her.

Sorry to hear about the guy's issues but this has been a very informative thread.

Can a Blue Quilt Axis still be ordered new?

Later,

Rod

From the guy who told you "Yes!"

Just click on Pete Dubaldo's name where you will be taken to his profile. You can email him from there and get the ball rolling!

FWIW - I had two EVHs (including an amber and blue quilt). I sold them ages ago because I found the Axis a lot more comfortable to play with it's belly carve and marginally wider neck at the pickup end. Just my 2 cents. Good Luck!

Went from 10's to 9's on my JP with no problem. I changed one string at a time which made final adjustments a lot smoother.

I went from .010s to .012s (I thin, Not Even Slinky) and tuned down to C. I didn't even have to adjust the truss rod because of the down tuning. I'm back to .010s.
