and just wanted to introduce myself.....I just ordered a Sting Ray 5, and I should have it in about two weeks (that's what the guy at the music store said anyway). I've never owned one, but every time I visited the music stores and tried one out, I've been amazed at how powerful they sound, and how easy the fingering was. So, I decided if I was going to get better, I'd better stop "driving a Yugo", and start "driving a Ferrari".

I hope that this is a place that is more like a brotherhood (ya know, us bassists have gotta stick together!); where one can come to ask questions, and share advice and experiences.

Thanks! :D

Welcome Smoove! A friend of mine has just picked up a used Burnt Apple SR5 and is loving it! After years of playing his Yamaha he's glad to have finally made the leap to MM.

Re:

I'm currently playing a "Nathan East" Yamaha. Not a totally crappy bass, but not very crisp when popping on the B string.

Every SR5 that I've had the pleasure to try out has been just the opposite - strong, not muddy. That's why I made the comparison between Yugo's and Ferrari's (not to offend any Yamaha lovers out there) - The SR5 just "feels" and "sounds" like quality to me, as opposed to what I'm now playing.

Hey Spectorbassguy - that looks like a nice piece of machinery ya got there.....

Fifthorange, I'm normally a no-frills type of guy, so I ordered the black on black with matching headstock. I don't know if it's a common color combo or not, but I like it! :D

Spectorbassguy - HE's been good to me, also! That's why I play for HIM every Sunday.

Maybe we could start a little sub cult for those of us on the "dark side"!

I have a left-handed SR4 Black, with rosewood neck, but a birdseye maple headstock.

I am sure there is a line in the Spinal Tap film regarding just how black something can be, but it escapes me now.

Anyway, welcome to the brotherhood of the dark side!

Haha... You sickos! Desert Gold with Green hardware???! Hahaha. I say Desert Gold would look great with some kind of lusterless gold (like on the ESP 304's) or REALLY shiny chrome hardware. ;)
