Seriously...
One of the perks that BP provided for us that we had in SLO at the MM factory was on-site relaxation yoga during lunchtime and after work. It was meant for people with injuries and people who needed to relieve stress. I can't tell you how much it changed my life. You really get in tune with your body -- I guess you learn to "listen to your body" and become really conscious of what feels good and what doesn't. Really helps with lifting heavy stuff, like I did this past weekend moving the rest of the EB factory to the new building. BP, you know those green shipping racks? Yeah, it was me, Nicole, Carey, Jody, and Jeff Chadwick moving all those. Do you see me walking still? Yeeesss.... Was it yoga and listening to my body that helped me move those monsters? Yesssssss....
Although I only have carry around a wimpy little six string thing, I gotta pump up the yoga angle with Beth here. After the onset of middle age and shoulder bursitis a few years ago I switched from generic lifting and cardio workouts to yoga. Completely changed my body type and I feel much better for it. With that and a diet change, went from 270 lbs to 217 in about nine months (although I've since settled in at about 230 +/-). No more trips to the chiropractor because the twisting and stretching take care of my back and neck. You can find many styles to fit your lifestyle from meditative to full out athleticism and it can get your head in a good space too. The core and relative body strength is a better overall feeling than weight training tightness I used to feel. Although I can't brag about my bench press any more, I figure I'm too old for that anyway.
Just 2 cents.
As for the drinking - gave that up 18 years ago - In the long run it can only make it worse. (please forgive the preaching)
