i've had to do the unthinkable

now i've been given a date for my impending redundency, needs must and i'm having to sell some of my most prized posessions.

i'm having to sell my 2005 mystic dream JP6
i thought this was going to be a keeper and i was determined it was staying no matter what but reality dictates that if it's worth something then it has to go so i've had to grit my teeth and face reality it's got to go.

i'll stick it up in the for sale thread too when i get home from work tonight but it's on ebay already as well

I've already sold my G!b*on LP standard (gutted! it was a nice cherry sunburst/flame maple top which i spent almost a full day in Guitarguitar in Edinburgh playing all the LP's they had in the shop 'till i found that one) i thought it was going to be a keeper as well, however the bills aren't going to pay themselves! i've also offloaded a Washburn N4, Washburn Steve Stevens an ESP Horizon and all my odd pedals and multi fx units, and most of my rack system

hopefully with my redundency money and the money raised from selling my gear i'll be completely debt free by the end of the year and will hopefully have a more secure future again and can start hopefully putting the pennies aside for another EBMM.

In the meantime i'll continue to support the company by using EB strings, cables, picks, stringwinders, etc...
(and i intend on retaining my position as Spud's bodyguard when required)

Sorry to hear that but at least you got your priorities straight. When you land on your feet again, at least you know that there will be plenty of fresh EBMMs available. Hopefully that will be soon.

Really sorry to hear that. Sounds like you're doing the right thing getting your house in order, though- these are just guitars, they're replaceable.

Lots of that going around. My employer decided that I was too old for the job. They have more lawyers than I have dollars to fight that policy, so I found another job for less money. But it's a job.

Hope you find something soon! You're doing the right thing, keeping priorities straight. Had I not landed the new position, I'd be doing exactly the same thing with guitars, cars, legos.....heck....anything not nailed down and maybe some things that are nailed down.

I think I'm gonna get another EB but one will have to go.
The beauty of my JP 6 is that it's not a case queen - you won't be afraid gigging it and it will be a fraction of the price you will pay to replace your JP6.

Bad news, man, and I feel for you. I know how it is to get attached to your guitars.

But Smelly's right, they're just guitars. As long as you have your health and you have your family, you can always get more guitars when you get back on your feet. If you lose your health or put your family at risk, there's potentially no way to recover from that. Take comfort and pride in the fact that you're doing the right thing for you and your fam.

And when the road is smoother, you re-up. And maybe the JP Stallion will be avail and will be the guitar of your dreams! Or a Gamechanger JP! So instead, think of this as the first step in your plan to upgrade to the latest and greatest JP models when they come out! Silver lining!

Thanks for the kind words guys, it's times like this when you realise what an awesome little community we have here online. I've been given a redundancy date of 30th Sept, so it's not for a while yet, however i need to really start paying off as many bills as possible now, and once i get my redundancy pay in October i should be able to clear everything and i'll be 100% debt and bill free for the first time in years and i'm hoping if all goes well i've got enough time to hopefully find another job as well.

I know they are just guitars but we do tend to get qute attatched to our instruments, which is quite irrational really, but i know i'm doing this for the greater good. hopefully by the end of the year i'll have moved north and me and my lovely woman Jo will have our own place sorted out, we'll not have any money woes anymore and i'll with any luck have a job and will be able to look to putting something aside to fund another EBMM.

Spud - you sir are a true gentleman i may have to take you up on that offer for the JP once i'm up and running again, and it's given me that extra kick up the bum motivation - something to work towards

Forgive my asking, but what is a redundancy?

basically it's loosing your job due to one of the following situations: -
i'll try and explain this as best as i can, lol

When a company workforce is in need of being reduced. This is usually due to change of circumstances whereby either:
1: The work load has changed therefore part of the workforce is no longer required
OR
2: The company may need to relocate and you job role no longer exists
OR
3: Technology has superseded your role making your job obsolete.

It's different than being sacked/fired, where you're out the door and that's it.

There's a process in place for Redundancy where a company has to go through a consultation process to ascertain how many employees it can maintain from it's current workforce and the impact on remaining staff if cuts have to be made, also with redundancy an exit program has to be put in place where a finish date is agreed and typically a payment (compensation basically) is made to the employee or employees who are loosing thier job, this can be negotiated or if it's, for example a company closing down completely - staff would recieve 'compulsory redundancy' which is typically a payment that equates to 1 weeks pay for every year in employment with that company.
In my case, the company i work for is closing down the office in Edinburgh and all the work is transferring down to England, so it has been negotiated and agreed that all staff in edinburgh will recieve a redundancy payment of 9 months salary tax free, which basically equates to the same as 1 years salary after tax, which works out OK for me as i've been there 7 years, and under compulsory redundancy i'd only be eligible to get 7 weeks pay

Ah, ok. I appreciate you taking the time to explain. That's similar to "layoffs" here in the US, but companies are rarely forced to do much for the out-of-work employees.

I hope everything works out for you. Like everyone said, they are just guitars. But, as guitarists, those things become part of who we are and it can be painful to get rid of them.

Same thing here Lum. I lost my job last month when the company decided to shut down and move its operation from Europe to India. Now I'm selling my 2001 JP6 and my Mesa amp to survive the next months until I found something else. sucks.
