Nah, I try to refrain from that type of stuff, :p

But I really do want to basically fill my Ipod, but I don't really know THAT many bands, not 7,500 songs worth.. So I guess the room can go to downloading every song I can..

all joking aside filling up a harddrive is easier than it sounds.

the deal is that "data" takes up the room... not applications. it would be pretty hard to fill up 120GB worth of applications. but 120GB can go easily when you start saving tons of pics, music, vidoes, photoshop docs etc.

anywho... either way 120GB should suffice for quite a while and maybe some day you'll need an external - but thats not for a lil while.

enjoy the new toy :)

ps: if you've never used a Mac there's a few free apps i recommend u install

1) Quicksilver

if you use the comuter a lot this will make you 2x more productive. info: quicksilver:quicksilver_manual [docs]

2) Adium

a great IM client which can connect you to yahoo, msn, aol

3) cyberduck - its an "ok" ftp program but its free

I'd like to recommend just a few more.

I'm totally going to 2nd Adium, as it's awesome. I use it and have no problems running all 8 of my IM logins at once, no problems.

NeoOffice, it's a free office suite. Almost as good as Office, but way cheaper. Like @$320 cheaper. :)

MacJanitor, runs maintenance scripts very easily. Just keeps everything running very smoothly.

And you might want to get Firefox web browser. I use Safari, but not all pages respond right with Safari, so I use Firefox in those instances.

Zinio is a digital magazine reader, it's free, but you have to pay for the magazine subscriptions. Check that out too.

On the subject of all things Mac, I just re-installed OSX 10.4 Tiger on my Powerbook G4. I have never done this before and wow! How easy compared to a windows install! I must have re-installed 1000's of PC's and I wish it was that easy! I am going to put a faster 100GB 7200rpm drive in the Powerbook. Life in the old dog yet....

.

i actually use Apple's iWork suite instead of MS Office. Its way cheap at $80 / lisence or 5 lisences for $100 (family pack). it will open Word, Powerpoint and Excel docs. The apps dont have a "Save as MS Word" dialogue - but you can Export to Word, Excel, powerpoint etc. same difference just a different menu. You can actually export as PDF and Flash too which is super handy.

i agree w/ u on Firefox. personally i hate it but i do have it b/c in some instances i have to. IE: my bank's site doesnt let me use safari etc.

Parallels is another good app if youre ever forced to have to use windows. like a web guy must check out stuff looks in IE so if youre in that camp parallels is a must have

NeoOffice can save as word or excel. NeoOffice is just a OSX port of OpenOffice. OpenOffice is just the free version of StarOffice. EB has been using both StarOffice and OpenOffice for some years now and they work great. Soon there will be an official version of OpenOffice for OSX, well one that doesn't require you install the X binaries from the OSX cd.

NeoOffice can export to PDF and Flash too.

My roommate just installed VMWare's Fusion on his new MacBook. Pretty much the same thing as Parallels. I've never used Parallels. I recommended VMWare because I'm used to running it on Ubuntu and could help him out. You can buy VMWare Fusion from the Apple Store now. Super simple to use as I'm sure Parallels is too. The only down side is Fusion costs money for OSX. The same program but called VMWare Server on the Linux side is free.

NeoOffice does that too, just that iWork has a lot more formating capabilities. I do prefer iWork (I'm using iWork 08), but if you're cramped for money or just plain cheap, NeoOffice will do the trick... for free.

how do you enlarge a window to full screen? The little plus at the top left doesn't make it much bigger at all..

Some programs have a "Full Screen Mode" usually movie players and such. Other than that, enlarge the window manually (bottom right corner).

how can I change/remove/add new icons at the bottom?

The thing at the bottom is called the Dock. It's like all your shortcuts in one organized place. You just drag and drop. To take them out, you drag them off the dock and it'll disappear. These are alias shortcuts, not your original file, so don't worry about removing or adding.
