I'm curious to hear what kind of crazy finishes and combinations of pickups, bodies, and necks people would get on their guitars if EBMM offered a custom shop.

I was thinking of an Albert Lee body, Silhouette neck with rosewood fretboard, 3 humbuckers, black pearloid pickguard, hardtail, with a blue sparkle finish and matching headstock. That'd definitely be cool.

I'd get a Luke in trans-blue with an Axis neck and matching headstock... In fact, I already tried to get a Luke in trans-blue with an Axis neck and matching headstock, but the nice lady at EB/MM told me to bugger off (not in so many words, of course :p ) Oh well, I'll keep dreaming... :D

Re: Custom Shop

I would probably get a Double Neck Axis, Hard Tail on top and a Flyod on the bottom, in Trans Green :D

Well, you know those trans green finishes go for at least $30,000. :)

I have been thinking about his one lately. I wasn't really thinking of custom shop stuff, but limited edition stuff.

I'm sure some of us have strats...half the fun of buying a strat is figuring out which one is right for you. Rosewood, maple, vintage shaped neck, neck tint, ash vs. swamp ash vs. alder, single ply vs 3 ply, pickups...etc....usually you can find the configuration you want, because Fender has released so many limited runs, and made so many slight production changes over the years. Smith strats, Texas Specials, Roadhouse, '57 Ri, etc.

I think that's one reason used strats hold their value so well. There's always *someone* out there who wants the particular combination you've got. WRT to MM, I want one of those Axis's with the pickguard.

So my suggestion to EB is to make some limited runs. Next year offer the AL with a rosewood fretboard. Offer a limited run of custom paint colors. How about an anniversary model? I'm sure some anniversary is coming up...give it a "vintage" neck shape. Vintage pickups? 1 ply pickguards?

G+L does this, and I think it's great.

Ok, back to the original question. I want an Albert Lee in Sonic Blue with a rosewood fretboard. Ditch the silent circuit, stick in some tweaked Lace Holy Grails. 1 ply pickgaurd. Vintage tint on the neck.

Is that so hard? :)

Oh and if this set-neck Baker thing is happening, I want something like a LP special.

Some of your wishes may be granted. Limited run colors could be a reality! We'll see what happens in 04.

24 frets Birdseye compound radias 10 to 15 inches. Either the Sil HSH configuration with PAF pro, Steve Morse Dimarizos or EMG's (85,SA,89) with a five way toggle, a push pull pot for the split coil neck pickup and the SM bridge activation switch. (Am I a control freak or what?) Wide open grain Ash body either natural or Trans Blue. The EBMM Piezo trem tweaked up by Ned Steinberger. Schallar Straplocks and a big fat leather EB strap.

I'm probably going to be at the '04 Winter NAMM show, I really hope to see something new that EB has to offer beside new string packs! I think a Silhouette and an Axis SUB (with the pickguard) would be really cool and a lot of kids who love MM guitars would finally be able to afford them.

I'd definitely like to see trans black on axis super sports!!!

I'll take a LUKE with one of those maple top bodies please! Trans purple with a matching headstock? Dump the EMG's and put a set of passive pickups in it, preferably a Tom Anderson H3+ in the bridge and any old things you got laying around for the other two holes. I LOVE the neck on my LUKE, that's why I bought it.

I would like to have an hybryd model between the Axis and the Axis Super Sport, with a rosewood fretboard, in trans purple, and with a 5 way switch, and only a volume knob, hard tail bridge and the 2 Di-Marzios Humbuckings !

For me, I'm sold on the EBMM JPM (well, maybe if a push-pull option could somehow be added to use the bridge and/or neck pickup as a single coil might be cool). If not, maybe a few more new colors for the JPM would satisfy me.

I'd go for the Axis/Axis Super Sport hybrid, also. Axis neck humbucker, Silhouette bridge humbucker... and then basically just an Axis with a rosewood fretboard and a hardtail bridge.

My 'Custom Shop' EBMM would be quite a simple request. A green hardtail Axis! Just like my red one but green! And it would have to be fitted with Stew-Mac 149 fret wire like all my guitars, and set up on a Plek machine.

And if it had my signature on the headstock all the better.........

What's Plek?

I still want MM to offer a Rosewood neck for AL's.

Hi there!

Well I think the going rate is about £120.00 for just the Plek fret dress. I paid £200 to have my Peavey Wolfgang hard tail done, complete with a re-fret of Stewmac 149's.

In fact it was not Chandlers! The 'main man' from Chandlers, Charlie Chandler has left and set up a new shop in Hampton Wick, and basically taken the whole Chandlers customer base with him! Its a much better shop IMHO, with none of the low end stuff Chandlers started to get into. Its called Charlie Chandlers Guitar Experience and can be found at www.guitarexperience.co.uk

Plek is a machine which is used for fret dresses. You can find out about them at www.plek.de .

Esentially its a cross between a cad-cam machine and a milling machine, and does the fret dresses by scanning the fingerboard and creating the perfect fret dress for your guitar. Much more accurate than any 'human' fret dress.

Charlie Chandler was the first person to have one in the UK.

All I know is all my axes (Hard Tail Wolfgang, Axis Hard Tail, EVH Hard Tail, Aria PE1200 & Guild Brian May) have been Plek'd and play a whole lot better because of this.

I think there is a couple of these machines in the USA too.
