I've come a little late to this party, but if you have the opportunity, Oxford is a really nice place to visit. I spent a few years living there and never grew tired of it. I was sad to leave.

Cool! Where did you go?

I worked in the Bear, and the Eagle and Child pubs when I lived there... you must have visited one of those?

Egad...what does the sign look like? I envision an eagle with its talons embedded in a small, screaming child, carrying it away to feed its young.....

Yep, that's it...

It's where C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien used to meet and discuss their new books and drink beer.

If you do, and there's a big guy with a beard and big thick glasses behind the bar (Steve), tell him I sent you. You might get a free drink, or you might get thrown out... who knows?

If you visited the Kings Arms, you probably went to the Turf as well?

The Bear is also nearby, has lots of ties on the walls...

Sweet wait til you get the chance to try some of the limiteds out this year....R y J Short Churchill and the Partagas.....yummy.

Oxford is lovely, especially if you are a literature fan. So many connections you can get lost in the history.

That's so funny, I was just there two weekends ago and as we passed that place I commented to my girlfriend that the pub name suggested a different image with the eagle's talons gripping the baby's head carrying it off to its giant nest. Good to know I'm not the only twisted person around here, ha-ha. And I'd HIGHLY recommend the pastry shop a few doors down from there. Yummy!

You won't find it in Scotland, it's in Oxford, not too far from where Azzy lives. You'd do well... half the bar staff in Oxford are Australians. :)
