Mark - you are awfully quiet........ are you too polishing up and playing your new black Big Al 4SSS with tort guard? I see it came in yesterday. Let me know all is ok.

Jim

It's all good Jim, thanks! :D

I posted a crappy cell phone photo in another thread, but then I didn't get around to assembling and stringing the Big Al until 10.00pm last night. I put TI Flats on it so had to tweak the truss rod slightly, and I've only had 5 minutes on it through a headphone amp. Sounds and feels great though. I hope to get more time with it tonight once the truss rod has settled and I've finished setting it up for the new strings.

I gigged the Big Al last night with my party cover band thing - some Motown/Stax, lots of funky 70's and 80's disco, Ricky Martin, a bit of more recent Kylie and Anastascia etc.

BP and team, you've outdone yourself with the Big Al. This is a f***ing good bass, even though I'll never use all the tonal options in a gazillion years. It feels great on a strap just like a Bongo does - perfect balance, sits right. I ran it all night in active mode with the neck and middle pups on, all EQ flat. With flats it was a funk machine. I can live with the skinny neck, it's not like I haven't played Jazzes or Thunderbirds much or anything like that.

Coincidentally, the fill in guitarist we used last night who I didn't meet until 30 minutes before the gig rocked up with a black/tort/rosewood Strat, so it was a matching colour scheme single coil blitz.

Again, well done BP and team on a fantastic bass!

I may have to blaspheme on my Big AL too. My Bongo is wearing three year old flats and they are just now breaking in LOL.
