I guess I'm just used to 10's. The JP XI comes with 10's and it feels too easy to play as well. Maybe I have biceps in my fingers. :D As far as tone goes the guitar sounds huge with what's on there so it's more about the feel. Actually, I play a 12-string acoustic a lot too so that explains it.
 
Thanks for sharing all of the details........It sounds lovely!!!!! I will prob. get one...A little story for you!!! I have played 10's on all my guitars until I started buying the Axises...I even played 10's on my Axis Supersports.....but, I switched to 9's to all my guitars now....and I AM LOVING IT!!!!! I set one of my Axis up for 10's.....and it didn't feel right...So I switched it back...It took me a few hours to get it back right...with the springs and trem.....etc.....but I did...and now I am converted to 9's......All of my recordings in the last few months are with 9's...just adjust the amp a little.....Why fight your Guitar..if you don't have to, unless your are just a blues or slide player only.....! I think the axis works best with 9's....Enjoy it my friend!!!
 
Just an aside on the string gauge, I play both 10's and 9's, just depends on the guitar. 10's feel totally wrong on certain guitars for me and vice versa. Don't put too much merit into only sticking with a certain gauge for all guitars necessarily.

The beauty of having different guitars includes how you react to it with some experimentation, strings being a large factor. Let your hair down (for those that still have it) and really feel what the guitar is telling you. You might be pleasantly surprised realizing that a different gauge feels more appropriate.

BTW, picks are the same way. Experimentation can be key. I just recently picked up some Red Bear picks…huge difference.
 
I go totally by feel for string gauges. When the strings feel too slinky, I go up in gauges until it feels right. One of my guitars will be getting 11's. I do lots of bends (which is why I love stainless frets) so I need a little resistance for it to feel right. If my Axis had a hard-tail, I think I'd prefer 9's. Jmho.
@mtrejo, I agree about the picks. When I have off days, I just keep grabbing different picks until my right hand matches back up with my left. It never fails. I have a Red Bear Lil' Jazzer but it keeps slipping out of my fingers.
