After 3 tedious and frustrating months of househunting, yesterday we had our offer accepted on a house. We popped a bottle of champagne to celebrate, but since the missus is breast feeding, I had to drink most the bottle myself ;)

The best part is that we now get our Saturdays back, after spending 5 hours every Saturday attending open homes, inspections and auctions.

I've already got the study earmarked as the EBMM room :D

Looks like a great place to raise your kids. I like the gated front. Congratulations!

Varry Nice Mark! How many square feet?

and, yes, is that typical housing in Australia? Does it tend to be regional? How close to work? etc, etc, etc.

is that a typical house in australia??

Depends on the area. In most Australian cities there is a mix of older style inner city houses and new housing areas a little further out in the 'burbs. This house is actually fairly close to the city, and is an old brick house that has been rendered and extended. The land size is a little larger than average, but otherwise it's a fairly typical suburban Australian house. Sydney house prices are pretty scary, as we had to pay more than twice the price for this house than a similar house we owned when we were living in Adelaide. With this mortgage, and two little kids, it looks like I'll be working until I'm 70.

To be honest I don't know how many square feet the house is - there are 3 small bedrooms + study, but the living areas are nice and big.

It's around 12 miles to work, which takes me an easy 25 minutes. The rush hour traffic goes in the opposite direction to me, as I work in the outer 'burbs. This house is situated around 8 miles from the middle of the CBD.
