Question Inexpensive amp that deliver Petrucci like tone?

For Christmas I'm thinking of treating myself to an amp upgrade. I've only ever used the Roland Cubes and for the most part, have been very satisfied with them. They have great tone for the price. I've been looking at the Dark Terror as its not too loud at 15 Watts and from what I can tell, the tone quality is pretty amazing.

Any suggestions?

No need for suggestions. You nailed it. The dark terror will give you everything you want at the price you want. Its cousin, the OR15 is pretty nifty too at about the same price point. I find the OR15 to be a bit more "musical" though.

I would have gone Orange had I not gotten my 1 Watt Marshall JVM. I'd recommend you try finding one of these but its more Satch and Slash than Petrucci.

ok...enough about the Mesa pedals. Every time companies like Bogner, Suhr, and Mesa do a pedal, they claim its pretty near the same sound as a tube amp. Wrong. Not even close. Not even in the same time zone.

Honestly, even a 30 Watt combo will be silly loud for playing at home

It's actually 15 watts. Mesa pulled the old HiFi snake oil lie of peak vs RMS power, which other amp makers are doing lately too. Boo!. You can't get much more than 18 watts out of 2 x EL84 and you'll cook the ever loving crap out of 'em doing so.

Still, 15 watts is silly loud for a house if you crank it, particularly with an efficient speaker like a V30 in there. But at 15 watts, if you play live you'll not have the clean headroom you need for a sparkly clean tone at high volume settings.
