Wow, I'm shocked looking at these. Especially that 5-string. What nerve.

Wish it was easier for EBMM to take care of this.

Trade Tang has been brought up a few times here and I remember BP saying it is very hard to enforce copyright laws in China. On a related note someone should search for the quality of there products. Often instruments are made of styrofoam. JOSH

I heard that too re: BP can't do much about this - too bad. I don't think they ship to the USA - not sure, but did some looking around the site and can't find anything. I think if they DID ship to the USA, then BP could take some kind of action. Isn't this the same situation that got Ibanez in a lot of trouble in the 70s? They were shipping those fake RICs and Fenders into the USA and they got busted.

No, that's an urban myth. My understanding is that the only "lawsuit" in the 70s was by Gibson/Norlin against the manufacturers of Ibanez Gibson style copies that were being imported into the USA at the time. The objection by Gibson was solely in relation to the shape of the headstock. Ibanez ended up paying Gibson some money out of court and changed the shape of their headstocks.

Rickenbacker chasing Japanese copies of their instruments is a relatively recent phenomenon. They missed the boat in the 70s and 80s when these instruments were being made under the Ibanez, Aria, Greco, Univox, Kasuga etc brands, so now Rickenbacker get their kicks by complaining loudly to eBay and having auctions shut down whenever these 30 or 40 year old basses are listed on eBay by the innocent fourth, tenth, or seventeenth owner.

EBMM's tactic of going after the copiers via their lawyers as soon as they appear has been much more effective, save for this Trade Tang mob.

I've seen knock-offs of StingRay's before. But, the price only being about $299 brand new tipped me off pretty quick...

Awful. They have a complaint service on the website to cite trademark violations. I will try that but assume it is a joke. The State Department needs to be stronger in this area
