Inquiry: Music Man Silhouette

I have yet to find a Silhouette in a local Guitar Center to take for a test drive, but it looks like a promising candidate.

I do have a couple questions.

1. I noticed on the spec sheet that it only has a 10" radius. Will I have a problem maintaining low action? I have played on some JPM's with some really low action and I notice that they have a 15" radius. Would hate to buy a Silhouette and not be able to get the desired action for myself.

2. I know the tremelo on the bridge is not floating, but does it sit directly on the wood? Is it capable of bar flutters or does it rest like the bridge on the axis?

I haven't looked yet on a pricing guide, but if anyone has a ballpark for me, that would be great.

Action wont be an issue, you can have it how you want, easy.

Bridge can bet set up also however you like, you can do all your usual antics no problem. It can be set floating if you want, as any trem can. Fully adjustable.

Ok, so is it routed beneath the trem like you would find on an Ibanez edge or any floyd setup. Or are you saying to adjust the trem to where it is angled upward?

Get a little bit of angle to float. It's not routed.

no its not routed, its a vintage strat like trem, not a floyd rose. you can have it set to float like on the Luke, just angled up, works great for Luke, check out some vids and see what sort of sounds he gets- amazing! Luke ditched the floyd once he saw how great the EBMM trem is.

ok, thanks for clearing that up. I don't do a lot of heavy trem work, but just wanted to clarify on the trem.

And you say I won't have a problem getting low action?

Any specific reasoning why players like Luke prefer the EB trem to a floyd?

Because the EB trem is awesome. It's more comfortable and hassle-free than any floyd system.

You can still get a nice action.
Not as low as the JP (you're going to fret out whilst bending earlier on a 10" radius), but still very nice.

There's a rule on this forum that we can't discuss dealer pricing for new instruments. Retail price is okay though. I believe that the Silo is somewhere in the ballpark of 1800 dollars. That will change when you decide what options to get.
I highly recommend you talk to a forum dealer about pricing, even if just to get a quote. Maybe you should PM the user "JeffreyB", as he's a great EBMM-licensed dealer.

I think the one thing that is gonna kill me on this decision is the action debate, until I find a store that has one. I know how well the JP's played, I just don't wanna spend the dough on a nice guitar if I can't get the desired action. Why do the Silhouette's come in 10' radius when it seems as if all the other ones are 12" or higher?

10" is great, not too flat or round, its not meant to be a flat board shredder axe like the JP, its a good in between radius for a versatile axe.

Silhouette a good choice? If not, what is a better one?

I bought my Silhouette Special on line without ever playing one before. It turned out to be the best instrument purchase I had ever made.

I think some on-line stores have a return policy where if you don't like it you can send it back, you would probably just be out the shipping costs. However, with a Silhouette guitar, I don't think you would want to put it down let alone ship it back.
