Just booked Pete Cornish to dep tonight in our horn section. For those that don't know who he is, he is a legendary figure when it comes to guitar effects having built bespoke systems for the likes of Gilmour, Knopfler, Brian May, Lou Reed etc. I played with him, years ago but not seen him for ages although his workshop is only 3 miles away from me. He is actually a great sax player and I'm really looking forward to catching up with him. I only wish I could afford some of his gear, it really is top notch stuff !!

Really interesting guy and a fine sax player. Never thought I'd see the day when he joined in with the rest of the horns dancing amongst the audience :D

He's really busy these days supplying his standalone units to the US shops where they are in great demand. He was telling me how his first big job was in the seventies for The Rubettes. They were suffereing from venue to venue with voltage dropping and 'brown out's' with their gear, particulary the valve stuff. He built a 'Variac' type voltage stabilizer fior them. that's what really got him started.

I always find it interesting when folk talk about how important it is for their effects pedals to be 'True Bypass'. Pete is completely against it, and doesn't use it in any of his systems. He explains it in detail here The case against true bypass

Got a great compliment from him re my tone too which I was chuffed about ;)

Wow so instead of True Bypass, we should look for High Impedance on pedals? :eek:

the high impedance is only important for one pedal in the row. And this has to have a great buffer unit in it. (EB Wha f.example).
After that your save. Every Boss unit has one in it but changes the sound, if you like that-go for it. If not go for an Axcess BS-2. I have one on my board.
I have 25meters of cable running onstage. My most important unit.

I'm with Mick that I like one good buffer on board, also an Axess BS-2. The rest are TB so I've only got the one buffer to worry about. But some guys hate buffers, lots of well known guys including John Suhr in this camp.

Go with what sounds best for your rig.

Love the homemade look of cornish stuff, it just looks reliable.
