Following the rapid exit from my previous band, I've been lucky to team up again with UK singer/songwriter Micky Kemp. I played for him for several years prior to OBM. He doesn't currently have a permanent band but uses various musicians from the UK and the USA. We've got several dates next week and will have our old friend Ron Irwin from Austin, Tx on drums. Adding to the fun will be Joe D'Urso from NJ who has been doing a few solo dates with Micky.

The highlight will be on the 29th when we support (open for) "The Jones Gang". Not the US band but one put together by Kenny Jones of Faces and Who fame. who lives locally. It'll be very interesting to see who he has in his band. Bongo and camera at the ready. :D

Just found out who's in "The Jones Gang" we support on Wednesday night.

drums - Kenny Jones, Small Faces, The Faces, The Who
bass - Rick Wills, Roxy Music, Foreigner, Bad Company
vocals - Robert Hart, Bad Company
guitar - Dave Colwell, Bad Company
keys - Steve Smith

plus another "Big League" rock guitarist - that'll be interesting.

It'll be Bongo 5 and Ashdown mini-stack with SR5 as a back-up. I must admit to being just a bit nervous but once the adrenallin kicks in I'm sure I'll be fine. I'm too old for this sort of pressure. I'll try and get someone to take some pix.

!!!! that's awesome! Bad Company!!! Paul Rodgers lives out here in my neck of the woods but have never seen him, only rumours of his whereabouts ;) Have met the engineer who mixed the live Bad Company DVD a couple of years ago, great engineer, great ears....

Talking of which I've just been watching Queen being inducted into the new UK R 'N' R Hall of Fame.

Brian and Roger did a short live set with Paul Rogers on vocals and ,from the very quick glimpse, it looked like Pino Palladino on bass. They got a fantastic reception.

Nice one Dave. Being nervous is natural - but get over the nerves quick mate & enjoy it!

Isn't Paul Rodgers helping to reform Queen with Roger & Brian?

Good Company

Well we did it last Wednesday.

Here are a couple of pics of The Jones Gang. My band pix are to follow.

As expected we got Can’t Get Enough, Feel Like Making Love, All Right Now, Substitute, Maggie May, Won’t Get Fooled Again, Itchycoo Park, Lazy Sunday, Sweet Little Rock & Roller and a few more I can’t remember. Really rocking.

Nice bunch of guys who are apparently going to tour in the USA in 2005 so watch out. Sorry about the P-thingy in the picture but Rick Wills told me he has always played them, although his son has an SR5 so there's hope yet.

We did a well received 45 minute set of originals written by the band principal Micky Kemp to the 300 strong crowd. To give an international flavour we had our good friend Ron Irwin from Austin, Tx on drums.

Used the Bongo 5 DI'd directly into the PA with the Ashdown stack for monitoring. I couldn't hear what it was like out front but I was told by their manager that we had a good sound. Not a bad showing for a bunch of near-pensioners.

Let's hope we can we do it again?
