The Sterlings do indeed look nice, but until there's an SSS 22 fret model, I can only watch.

What is the advantage of a 22 over a 24? I'm still newbie enough that I don't know the answer to this.

Lately, I've only been looking at 24's....since I don't currently own one.

Jack - with a 21 or 22 fret neck the neck pickup sits underneath the second octave. With a 24 fret neck the 24th fret sits under the second octave. So, the neck pickup on 24 fret guitars does sound a bit different. Most folks would say that 24 fret guitars are more for heavy metal or heavy rock.

Anyone else want to expound on this?

Who said tone what? I thought that all that mattered was the shredding.

Having always owned 21 and 22 fret guitars, I never gave the neck pickup placement any thought. First I heard of it was when BP talked about the real need for a 22 fret Silo Special. From there learning the logic of a single coil sitting at that second harmonic, it just made sense, for the added harmonics and chime.

I have 21 and 24 fret guitars. They both have their good points, the 24's neck pickups are tighter more focused, the 21 can have a more bluesy feel.Win some, lose some. As ever, its just a matter of taste.

Back to the Sterling, I would really like to play one of these...any one found one in Minnesota? I've called all 4 of the local Guitar centers, and no one knows anything about them. I contacted Foxtone music, who is an EB dealer, and they didn't have one either.

I received a Musician's Friend catalog in the mail yesterday. The Sterling by MusicMan bass guitars are proudly displayed, but unfortunately, no mention of the SBMM guitars.

After spending 2 hours in GC North Dallas today with a silo and then an Axis SS, I've decided that the Axis neck is just too much of a must for me. I'll be into DuBaldos as soon as they come in as the neck on the Sterling Silo is assymetrical. I got lots of vaca days.....maybe I can drag Glenn down with me this time. :D

Looks like a winner for the bucks. Locking tuners, good gig bag, free shipping... heck yeah.

Musicians Friend keeps pushing back the delivery date. Any word on when these will actually be available?

Order one...I'm betting they're going out of stock as soon as they're in stock. They won't charge you until it ships.

OR, give Pete DuBaldo a call and see what he can do for you.

I noticed something today in the latest Guitar Player (besides the sterling by musicman ad). In the article about whammy bars, the floyd is shown and ID'd on a SBMM AX40.

Kudos....

Jack, what do you mean it was ID'd? meaning they determined the source of the part?

For my money, that thing looks like a dead ringer for the gotoh floyd, which is what I believe (and please correct me if I'm wrong) OEM on the EBMM axis....

which I have to say, I actually prefer over the OFR...

If it is indeed the gotoh floyd that's on the ax40, it's in my oh so humble opinion, the best floyd licensed trems out there...

But again, I'm only going by what I see in the pictures...

Does anyone know if the Sterling JP50 has the same switching configuration as it's EBMM big brother? (when you're in the center position the inner coils of each pup are activated, in parallel)

Thanks,
Frank
