Hi.

I've been lurking here for a couple of weeks and finally decided to join.

I've been playing about 20 years and amassed a small but important collection:

I have a little extra money and wondered what I could add. I'm not a big semi-hollow body player and the PRS left me just a little cold.

Then I remembered back in 1991 I was in a small guitar shop in Brooklyn. They had a new EVH and the owner let me play it. The size, the neck, the balance were perfect! I vowed then that someday when I had the money I would buy one. But after Eddie went to Peavey I never saw those guitars again.

A little research and I was surprised to find they're still coming out under the Axis name. Now I have to have one! But they're still fairly rare. It seems the few sites that have them don't have a wide selection.

Is there any way to choose between a flame or quilt top? Or are they like Les Pauls where you get what you get?

Thanks for the info!

Most of them are made to order, meaning a lot of dealers don't stock a whole lot and if you want a specific color it may have to be ordered. At that point the order is processed by MusicMan and the guitar is built... takes about 3 months from that point. You can't choose flame or quilt on the standard model Axis... really its just color and fretboard (Maple or Rosewood board)

For a little more, you can get a Ball Family Reserve Axis... There you can choose Flame or Quilt top and are pretty much assured to get an AMAZING top... (not that the Standard tops are anything less then beautiful) your color choice is limited to the BFR colors... which are very nice! You can look at the MM site to see color options and read about the differences in the two guitars.

There are also several dealers who are on these boards and you may want to contact them to see what they have and what their prices are etc... If you are in the US I would start with Pete over at Dubaldo Music. He has a great reputation with a lot of the forumites. I would also try Zombi who is at Guitar Center... he can take care of you as well maybe even find you some cool used stuff like an EVH (there are a few Red ones at GC) and also has a great reputation. Last, if you want a specific color and need it right away... Customer Service can help you locate a guitar. I would recommend contacting a dealer first as we try to keep the calls to CS from forumites to a minimum.

Welcome to the boards, good luck in your search and if you have any questions let us know... we look forward to getting to know you.

Welcome to the forums.

At one time you were able to choose between flame and quilt. The only way to choose now is if you go with a BFR Axis. Quilt is an upcharge but it is reasonable. You can go to music-man.com and check between the regular axis and the BFR axis. Both are great guitars. And many believe are much better than the EVH's

Hello and Welcome aboard

The Axis is really a great guitar. There are so many options (color, matching headstock ...). You cannot go wrong with an Axis.

Welcome to the EBMM forum. Whatever kind of Axis you buy... you can’t go wrong. I have owned & sold 4. I had a Honey burst quilt, a red quilt, a blue and a gold flame. I loved them all. Each one was identical to the next.

Whether if it a BFR or a regular Axis, a flame or a quilt... you will love it!

Thanks for all the info! The 3 month wait isn't so bad (compared to teh 2 year wait for a Rickenbacker!) but I'll keep my options open.

I think I'm set on a red quilt top with a Floyd Rose. EVH or Axis new or used doesn't matter so much to me or the time it will take to find one. I'm looking forward to the search.

if red is your color go to Guitarcenter.com and search their used gear. I know there is a red EVH and a Red Axis on there... If you call the store they will email you much better pics. That way you can see the top before you buy it... if it has to be new then email Pete... Im sure he can help you out.

Think your the guy who sent me the kind PM about my quilt top axis.

It really is a nice colour and as far as playability and build quality goes its right up there.

Good luck in finding one , scout around to see if you can pick up a bargain like i did .

Darren.

Welcome !! Great choice you are making. Buying from GC is quick and safe. Don't forget about the "For Sale" thread here in the Forum!

I know Jim has a really nice Blue Axis for sale (if you would consider Blue).
