Introduction and new Dargie report

Been poking around these parts for a few days. Thought it time to register and introduce myself. Tim Sarter from N. Cal. I recognize a number of names posting here so it already feels pretty comfy here.

Just got the first Music Man I've bought in years. Sold my last one - a '78 Ray to Jack years ago. Anyway, I bought a new Dargie Delight HH 4 Bongo from Bass Central last week. Been wanting to check out the Bongos and I coudn't resist the finish on the Dargies. I've only had it a few hours, but am so far VERY impressed. Can't wait to use it live. Should make for some wonderful shows.

Would like to give kudos to EB for their fantastic customer involvement too. I found it very easy to get a hold of them to answer some questions at the factory (think I spoke with Beth) and find their input here in this forum refreshing - particularly considering recent "difficult" situations. Hats off to you EB! I'm pleased to be able to support you by purchasing one of your fine instruments.

Finally, I'm considering installing a coil tap on the front humbucker so I have the option of running it single coil. Anyone here try that mod?

That's funny! I didn't think of it quite like that!

Seriously though, I had a hard time deciding between an HH and a SH. Tough call with out really test driver either one. When I thought of adding a coil tap it seemed like a win/win.

A: Nope. I'm related to JSarter, RSarter, KSarter, CSarter, PSarter, BSarter, and LSarter though. Big family that, coicidentally, also hails from SLO. My folks met there in Jr High in the mid '30s.

If you do the mod, it'll be interesting to see how you accomplish it.

The Bongo electronics are not mounted like most rear-mounted electronics. Rather than bolting the pots to the top of the body, the entire thing, pots and all, is built on a chassis that is internally mounted. The holes in the top of the bass are very large...bit enough to fit the knobs through. Also, the top is very curvy. Bottom line...it'd be challenging to mount a toggle switch.

Also, the pots are different from those you usually see...they're mounted directly to the circuit boards, rather than being wired in. I don't know if you could find a push-pull pot of that type or not.
