With all the hype over the iPad, I can't help but think how much it could possibly do for touring/live musicians down the road when the right software comes out for it. Jordan Rudess has had a touch display on his keyboard for reading music for years now, but with something like the iPad and the right software it could really be used for just about anything -- not just reading music but also adjusting effects or patches or loops or just about anything.

Seems like much better platform for a live musician than a laptop. Anyone else looking forward to what this thing may eventually offer?

Jordan was talking about on twitter this morning. He is soooo excited. He has been using the iphone for recordings and live situations, he will no doubt be using this in its place. There are a ton of great iphone/ipad apps for music.

Re: Protools...

Because of the touch-only interface (and limited processor and memory), that kind of super-complex stuff is probably out of the reach of the device... however, as aleclee pointed out above there is software already coming out for it that will lend to recording in limited capacities...

yeah i've really been interested in the iPad. I'm needing to pick up a new iPod but the iPad is certainly interesting... i'm using my macbook like crazy and it's the center of everything... i have it hooked up to my tv and sound system... i see Apple really becoming an all inclusive system to do everything.

I already own a macbook pro and an iphone 3gs, so I don't really feel like I need the ipad.
But it's certainly an interesting device.
I'm curious to see how it will evolve, hoping that some interesting apps will come out, because up to now the appstore has 95% of rubbish apps, and 5% of good apps imho.

I got a Touch just about a year ago.

The iPad is more or less a bigger screened version of that. No need for a new one.

Just got back from the Mall. I played with an iPad.

I see how it can do some pretty cool stuff. I'm a Mac user. I have an iMac, a trusty old Powerbook 12" and an iPod touch. However I would never choose an iPad over a full blown Macbook Pro.

Again it's a different kind of product, I used to own a netbook and I can see the benefits of staying connected without having to carry around a lot of weight. I'm excited about it, but I just don't see me using one of this on a daily basis... yet. :D
