I concur. I think I heard it was Eric Clapton, Beck, and Jimi hendrix... being the top that is. I think they are all good, but umm there's a lot better. I would put Petrucci up on the top along with Satriani, EVH among others. On another note I would love to see Satriani move to Musicman. I have to say Petrucci's move created an excellent guitar. I can only imagine the crazy things that could be done with Satch. Chickenfoot III isn't bad either... Hope I don't open up a can of worms saying that, but it's true it's not bad!!!

I've not seen it, but to be honest, it's all a matter of personal taste as far as I'm concerned.

It depends on what the criteria for judging is as well. Clapton, Beck and Hendix have massive longevity and are still as widely followed today as they were during their heyday.

To answer your question, BP, no -- nothing is dumber than RS 100 Greatest Guitarists!

where Luke, Morse, and Albert Lee turn up

None of these great 3 made the list! Yet somehow they squeezed Kim Thayil of Soundgarden in at the end...

My spider sense tells me for some reason that Kim Thayil may not be as great of a player as Steve Lukather...

That is pretty damn silly. I would say it is on par with the 100 greatest guitar solos from Guitar World.

Yeah - dumb is an understatement. I personally pay absolutely no attention to it or similar polls whatsoever.

It's a typical tabloid writer/publisher move in that : (A) Write an artical that is read and mostly agree'd upon and the story is over or : (B) Write/publish a Story and piss everyone off so that people will keep on talking about it. Rolling Stone magazine even knows the top 100 whatever is B.S. With the internet and Bloggers/ Wannabe writers, the paper magazines are becoming extinct. They will write whatever true or not on what sells. The truth means nothing. Story telling, Recycling articles from the past, Bending articles to fit what sells is what they are after = Money. I honestly don't even buy guitar magazines anymore. With all the advertising in the mags, it should be given away for free. These Writers Write to create impact to keep themselves revelent.

Joni Mitchell ahead of Alex Lifeson??? Really?!?!?!

Enough with the lists Rolling Stone...they are frighteningly stupid and as way off as it gets!

Same here, I don't spend my money on them anymore. When I was new to guitar it was good to flip through, read some articles and see all the gear thats out there. Now its just a waste of paper.

By the way, was Jason Becker even on that list?

Thank you BP! I'm glad someone else agrees with me about Rolling Stone. I admit that I struggle with what I find to be worse: Rolling Stone magazine or Saturday Night Live.

Don't be knockin' Joni Mitchell. She rules.

One has to wonder .... how did they come up with the list? What were the qualifiers, money made, records sold, popularity? What was their sample base, demographics, etc. ? Definitely different than what the results would be of a poll of actual real live artist/professional/amateur guitarists.
BP they should have consulted you prior to printing that. ;-)
