It is soccer....why are you watching? What is next...men's volleyball? Bowling? And Danny.....repeat this chant 1966......1966......1966....

1966 ???? lost me lol, not into soccer in the slightest,
Was playing Snooker this morning (thats my second favorite ball game with the first being , well Ernie Balls :) ).
The match I'm guessing was on in the snooker hall and all i could hear was buzzzzzzzz coming off the TV in the background (put me off my game :( ).... the mind boggles

I haven't decided which is more annoying the horns, the announcers or the players theatrics.

I just mute the volume and pass by the TV set once every 15 minutes to see whats going on.

Haha nice links. I got used to it, and I think they reduced the incoming sound from the matches in my local coverage. But it is truly annoying and it never stops! At least they should have higher quality tuning standards, and tune them to a chord or something. I've heard more out of tune B flats than I wanted to in my life.

OK, there are two possibilities to get rid of this "noise"!

One domestic engineer discovered for press exact frequencies of this bloody horns.
Main center frequency is 460 Hz, and upper harmonic 920 Hz.

So, to eliminate Vuvuzelas from Your TV set everyone should have some gear as follows:

1. First option is to take line out audio signal from TV set and wire it through professional 32 band graphic equalizer and just cut those frequencies from above with narrow Q factor!
After audio signal is processed as I wrote, must be amplified somehow, very easy way is to connect it to pair of regular PC speakers or something like that, whatever You have at home!

2. Second option is for more advanced users and requires some professional gear.
You need small few channel mixing console, tone signal generator and for the main mix again some simple active boxes, PC speakers for example...etc.
Connect TV audio line out signal into the one mix console channel and tone signal generator into the next mix console channel. Adjust 460 Hz and 920 Hz and rewire it in to the anti-phase mode. Adjust both channel levels and those anti-phase critical frequencies will nullify Vulvuzelas sound!

We are talking here about short frequency spectrum and the rest of audio signal will be untouched, so the human ear could not hear this little part is missing, but Vulvuzelas should be gone away!

Good luck! ;)

I'm watching it now (England v Algeria) - still a bit noisy with horns but you can hear people chanting and whistling now as well so maybe a proportion of the horns have broken after a few days ;) or some of the people with them have lost interest

What is this 'soccer' it's the football world cup as far as I was aware - hit the ball with the foot = football!

Is there another game called football :D :D :D
