I have spotted a couple of nice stingray SUBs in a nice black finsih on ebay, and I like the look of them. But I was wodnering, would I really need a SUB with the basses I already have? My spector is humbucker equipped, and my warwick is good at making fat funky sounds.Where would a SUB fit into my arsenal?

i'm pretty sure the spector has no humbucker, but it does in fact have a double J.

No the spector Rebop has 2 EMG HZ humbuckers.Do these make a very different sound compared to the single big humbucker on the SUB?

The Music Man humbucker has a very unique sound. I would go for a stingray before a S.U.B if you can. It would match the quality of your other basses better than a SUB.

Can i get the same looks as the SUB? I don't find the Stingray very kool normally, but the SUB just says 'thrash me, i am a rock bass!'.I have to check playibility and stuff, but let's face it, looks play a part in choosing a guitar or bass, that's why there's so many different styles.

I have a black S.U.B. Personally i think the black finish is better than the usal black on the SR, the S.U.B logo also looks cool in the lights especially with the silver scratch plate, thinking of getting a mirror on mine, will have to post some pics soon. There seems to be a snobbery on here towards the SUB and I aint liking it. The finish is excellent the neck joint perfect, the chrome deep and shiny all the time the nobs/pots and neck have a really good quality feel to them. I've played a stingray before and with the two band eq compared to 2 band eq on the sub, sound wise it's barely noticeable, im sure the three band is better, but hey you can always tweek you're amp a little. I think youl be suprised by them, they sound there best through a cab which has a tweeter in it.

I think the Sterling line only comes in four banger models.

I think it'd be a good call, it gets the "Sting Ray" sound that also has to do with where the Sting Ray humbucker is located and seeing the list of basses you've got a S.U.B. would be an added tone ,not a duplicate sound so if I were you I'd try out a S.U.B. for a while.

Those that haven't played the SUB yet talk about them are just talking.
Try the SUB with a good amp; you will be enchantingly surprised.

So you promise me that the SUB will add more sounds to my arsenal, and I aint gonna be wasting my money? The thing is, I saw a Tobias Toby Pro in the academy f sound, and it felt like it was an extension of my body, I could do some really funky stuff on it.It's hard to choose. The SUB looks more metal in a black finish, but the Tobias is natural bubinga and wenge, and it's a thru-neck.I can't choose.(as usual)

If you think the Toby is gonna sound better than an SUB, your on crack. The Toby's a cheap Korean made basses thats whole reputation depends on a nice brand that Gibson killed over a decade ago. Don't get one unless you are absolutely planning on chaning the electronics. Weakest active sound ever.

Do the SUB. Sounds just like a Stingray to the untrained ear. I'd go for the Ray though, just so I can say I own one of the most prestigious basses ever made.

if you want punch and good slap
GET A STERLING
i personaly like the sterling better then the ray for several reasons

1, when your a wirey 14 year old the stingray feels way heavey round your neck
2, stingray bridge is to wide
im not sure about this one and im sure bout this one and will prolly get jumped on after this post
3, there is more tone variability because of the togal switch on the sterling

i wouldnt go sub if i where you
i would save the extra cash and get one of the full hard on modles

Nope, don't think anyone has anything against the SUB... I've played a few of them, seriously considering one as a second bass... they're great instruments. The Stingray, however, is a better instrument in my opinion.

The only way you can tell if you need one is to try one for yourself. You're not going to get any particularly negative opinions about them here, but then you wouldn't get any particularly negative opinions about Warwicks on a Warwick-dedicated board.

I always liked the look of Warwicks, until I tried a few. I probably wouldn't bother trying another when I next look for a bass in that price range. I just don't like the way they play and I find their tone bland. But that's just me, lots of other people like them.

I like my(for the time being) SR Sub, except needed smaller neck because of left hand injury.
I ran across a 97 Hamer J cruisebass USA custom the other day,
sorta of like when I meet my wife, love at first sight and brought it home.
