I have a 2000 Stingray 4 fretless that I was recording with last night. Everything went fine in the recording, but I noticed I had the 80hz bass cut turned on in my PreSonus recording preamp, so I decided to re-do the fretless bass track today.

After tuning the bass I turned off the bass cut and I also realized I have the Phantom Power switch on in the PreSonus box (I was recording vocals just prior to that). When I plugged my Stingray fretless it, I had all this noisy distortion/buzzing sound, and when I turned the tone knobs, I could hear the distortion noise cycle faster or slower depending on which direction I turned the knobs.

I thought my battery was dead so I popped a new 9V in, but I had the same noise. So I put the old battery back and discovered that only the volume knob works and the tone nobs no longer function, and the bass' volume is way lower than normal.

Did I damage my preamp? Or could there be a broken wire inside that I just need to resolder? Has anyone had this issue before?

This really is something you should ask customer service. Diagnosing this sort of issues is verry hard. Mayebe you need a new preamp. Musicman can suply you one.
