My 'Ray is basically out-of-the-box setup with very slight truss rod adjustment and it plays fine. (3/32") from the 12th fret, per the FAQ section. I was just noticing that, compared to my other basses, and others that I've played, that the action seems to be more "level" on the others.

On my 'Ray the strings sit lower towards the top of the neck (than the others) but both are about the same height around the 12th Fret. The other basses seem to be a little higher by the top of the neck, making the strings appear more "level". Again the 12th fret height is about the same. They're not totally level, of course, but on my 'Ray it just looks more "sloped" than others I've seen. Is this lower action? or is this why people say the Stringray has low action? Or do I need to adjust?

thanks

I don't know if this is a common thing or not...I'm definitely no expert on setup, although I do my own setups. I noticed the same thing on my SR5. In fact, when I initially set it up (it was a GC refugee in major need of adjustment), I made the mistake of overtightening the trussrod. I got the strings more level, but the strings were much lower than specs at the 12th fret and I got a lot of buzz.

I found that I was able to get the action much lower and much more playable by letting the trussrod loose a little more than I normally would and dropping the bridge saddles.
