John,

I'll echo the posts Lionel (Whitestrat) and Rob made on page 1 of this thread (posts #2 and #3 to be exact):

The AL is your ash body/maple fingerboard early 50s Strat tone - more bright, brassy/bell like. The Silo Special is your alder-body 60s Strat tone - a little warmer and woodier. Also outside of Dargies and some of the LEs you can't get a rosewood board on an AL; if you want rosewood you're looking at the Silo Special.

Neither is exactly a Strat, but they are in the same family so to speak.;)

EDIT:
Grain of salt mention - the AL I owned was an MM-90 model; but I've had 2 rosewood board Silo Specials (and I would love to get my 2007 LE Silo Special back).

Sorry about that! I do remember reading This! I just figured that being that the 2 guitars are very different in shape that it would have an impact on how the guitar sounds and feels and someone would have a preference over one or the other..... I just purchased a SS last week H/S/S and can't get over how Beautiful this guitar really is and since it replaced my other guitar that had S/S/S setup I was curious if I should get another SS or try the AL to fill that application......

Since you have an HSS Silo Special then I would consider the AL just to get a broader tonal difference - between the ash body and the single coil in the bridge it will get you further away from the HSS SS. The caveat is the neck shape - the AL has a slightly deeper neck than the Silo Special.

Great news! My question next question: Will it be two humbucker have the same route as the three humbucker version? I'd love the option of sticking a single coil in the middle!

Doubt, from the way they route the Silo Special, SSS or SSH, the SSS is only routed for SSS. That would be my guess.
