I say gig it...

And I practice what I preach, even when surrounded by fast-moving, not so careful guitarists:

Play it. I was once told by a person who knows vintage instruments, The ones you find in pristine condition are usually the ones that slipped through quality control all those years ago. In other words they suck to play. With that said play it, because EBMM dosn't make junk.:D

You knew what the answer would be before you started this thread--didn't you?

Those of you who know me are aware that I've got lots of basses & guitars--I always have to fight off the impulse to hang a new one on the wall & not gig with it. But, I keep reminding myself that the reason I get something in the first place is to play it. If you want to keep it pristine, then you could save a lot of money by just buying a photo of the bass you're lusting for. I don't alter or purposely "relic" my basses or change pickups to get a different tone, etc.--I figure that if I wanted something different than it was originally designed, then I should just buy a different bass. But other than that--every one of them is here to be played & good honest playing wear (including mishaps with drunken drummers) is all part of the deal.

I'm having a dilemma. Should my DD SR5 HS be gigged with, or kept pristine sitting at home?

It's been my main practice bass, and I'm really having fun with it. I played it for a set on a gig a couple weeks ago and would like to play it more. But there's the ding factor. Hell, at the last gig, our drummer tipped over my ASAT. Crash. Thankfully, only a small scuff from the cement in an inconspicuous place, but if that'd been the Dargie! Now if I were Ritchie I'd have 3 DDs to gig with and 3 to put in a glass case.

Course it would give me a reason to get another SR5.

play the s*@t out of it!
