see i dont play live often guitar for me has been a hobby. A way to relax and have fun i have in the past played a few live things with some friends of mine but nothing to a grand scale mostly coffee shops on friday nights just to get out and have some fun weather or not its worth it for acoustic songs i always bring my taylor. So the piezo might be a waste. Also because i dont have and acoustic amp i always mic the acoustic

I'm in a similar boat, though I plan to get the piezo because I'm thinking that in the future I would like to do some home recordings, and to me it would be a lot easier with an electric guitar feeding directly into my computer instead of mic. my acoustic and making sure everyone in the house is quiet!!!

Foggy.....out of curiosity....which model are you looking to get? With all the ridicule about your "Custom Air Guitar", I can't seem to remeber what model you were looking to buy/steal/drool over/"aquire"/rent.........

I know it ain't the JP...you passed on the drunken Koogie offer! ;)

I got mine with a piezo. I dont imagine using it very much but i figured it would always be nice to have that option. Plus, you can blend the sounds. Not only that, but (up to a point) it sounds like an acoustic but obviously still plays like an electric. So you can widdle away with an acoustic sound. I know a purist would hate that but its just another playing option. I have a decent acoustic and I think the piezo sound comes close. But for recording you'd probably always use an acoustic. But then again, I reckon (correct me if im wrong) John Petrucci used his piezo for the solo on solitray shell because he goes very high which might not be practical on a normal acoustic.

I think all in all it's just a valuable option. PLus, 1 thing i have used it for is..........ahem.........I set the volume on the piezo very low on the distotion channel so that a i get a very soft clean sound. Then at the flick of a switch i can go from a very soft acousticish sound to full blown overdrive without messing with footswitches or volume controls. It does work! Especially if you dont use tons of gain anyway

Silo!

Don't get me wrong, I love the JP too! The best trems ever! Plus I can fly like a m.f-er on their fretboards!
I just like the pups better on the Silo (for my first EBMM anyways!):)

Going back to the original question "Is the Piezo worth it?"

I believe these are somewhat easier to find than the guitars

If only you could hear me laughing now!!
Yer absolutely right - problem is, I'm 2 days into buying an acoustic amp and the battery has gone flat on the piezo - I had no idea how long the battery would last.
So I got a new toy and can't really play with it. Ah what the hell - "LET'S CRANK UP THE MAGS !!!"

the peizo option isnt anything id use if i played guitar in a band. i dont imagine myself in any type of band where the acoustic sound would be a requirement but it sure is nice to have for when im noodling around the house.

to me ... guitars and basses arent just a tool for "band stuff" ... its more of a general hobby. i like to play. play lots of random stuff, lots of it i suck at, but hell, its fun... and the peizo, to me, adds another dimmension to that
